Spence triggers rematch clause - here we go again!
Hard to understand why there is any need for this fight. I guess with there being a rematch clause, Spence was concerned how it would look if he didn't invoke it?

Same ending just earlier.

Hard to see it playing out much differently to the first fight.

When the referee calls them together in the ring for final instructions, would like to hear Crawford ask : 'Got any excuses tonight Errol.'

You're referring to Jones v Tarver aren't you ?Redback Rasta wrote: ↑31 Aug 2023, 22:49 When the referee calls them together in the ring for final instructions, would like to hear Crawford ask : 'Got any excuses tonight Errol.'

When you think about their ages you have to do a rematch quickly.

I think it's a fight that Spence can win at 154.Redback Rasta wrote: ↑31 Aug 2023, 23:14Evander wrote: ↑31 Aug 2023, 23:07You're referring to Jones v Tarver aren't you ?Redback Rasta wrote: ↑31 Aug 2023, 22:49 When the referee calls them together in the ring for final instructions, would like to hear Crawford ask : 'Got any excuses tonight Errol.'![]()

Re: Spence triggers rematch clause - here we go again!
what did spence show you to give him a good chance? he was 2nd best at everything
he's been making 147 fine enough for years, it wasnt some huge drop for him or something. a fight at 154 means craw has less to cut too, i dont see it making such a difference to turn the result from 1 sided battering outclassing to a spence win

Struggling to make 147 for starters.
Why do you think everyone is talking a 154 bout.

he's made it fine for years, never needed any second attempts, never moved up for any 154 interludes so he could have breaks from cutting to 147. looked strong in beating ugas the fight before. it's just an excuse. has to cling on to something to think he has much of a chance
Re: Spence triggers rematch clause - here we go again!
He had to be associated with the Welterweight division that's where the big coin is.
I think the weight draining over the years has taken it's toll on Errol Spence.
He has earned the right to move up with respect and gave enough to the lighter weight classes to put himself in a rematch with Crawford at 154.

It's not easy to say at this stage because neither has any form at 154.
Spence might be better and it might suit him being at a higher weight, but there is a possibility he could be slower or his resilience might not be the same.
He was stunned by Ugas and battered about by Crawford; getting hit by bigger men might have an even more detrimental effect on him.
You can also flip the coin and wonder how it might affect Crawford too.
Bud has talked for a long time about going up and there is the possibility he might be even more formidable at 154 and if that's the case, Spence is out of luck, but like I said about Spence, it could potentially slow him down too.
Lots of variables to consider,

crawford is simply the vastly better fighter, he's not going to be any slower at 154, he just wont have to cut as much weight

maybe Spence would do better or maybe not but I definitely think Spence was drained and lethargic. He was outgrowing the ww division and only he knows how hard he struggled to make 147. He stayed more time at 147 just to land that big money unification fight with Crawford. He should've moved up at 154 a few years ago.

Yes he should have done, but this fight was just too big and it was going to be his last at WW.
It's pretty obvious Spence was drained at 147. He's been hinting that for ages.
Still doesn't mean he will win at 154, but he might. A lot depends upon how much better Crawford will be at 154.
This rematch weight issue must also clearly have been one of the main points in their long winded prefight negotiations.
Re: Spence triggers rematch clause - here we go again!
We will see if 154 makes a difference, but, imo, Spence’s response to the loss is the real wild card. Spence IS world class and he was completely taken apart in the biggest fight of his life, by far.
Errol has been through a helluva lot since his horrific auto wreck. He has NOT been quite the same at any point of his comeback from that. But, what we saw in the ring v TCraw demonstrated what Spence has been vulnerable to from the start; a more gifted and skilled boxer who is also more professional and who is at least as tough.
Errol has ALWAYS been vulnerable to a good jab. The jab TCraw brought to the table on fight night was one of the ATG jabs, and an entire arsenal to back it up. But, the key was that jab. You could see Spence drain like a losing Siamese Fighting Fish specifically due to that jab. From round 2 it was just a question of whether Errol could find a way to reach the final bell.
TCraw was honest about when he thought he had Spence. It was when he felt the Texan’s power. He knew that he could take more risks. Spence has never had great one punch power. He has always relied on his toughness and beating opponents down.
The wild card is whether the loss has awakened the beast that Spence was prior to the 2019 accident. If it has we may see a much more competitive match.
It is unlikely to be enough v TCraw.

That wasn't the same Spence that beat Kel, your right about what has happened to him since, and add age onto that as well.ironbeard wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 12:32

His last outing, where he got the job done admittedly, wasn't very impressive. I hoped at the time it was an off night. Turns out that it might just be where Spence is at right now.

Spence has always been the toughest kid on the block. He held it together for years after the wreck but then he ran into a tougher kid who is laser focused and has ATG gifts combined with honed skills.
Spence can retire after the rematch, either way. For that matter, so can TCraw.
