Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Chris Eubank Jr. II - 2 September 2023
combination of things - eubank was always more talented but in the first fight got complacent. basically letting smith tee off. this time he took smith more seriously after having been knocked out, and that led to him performing better. a good eubank who boxes with even half a brain cell beats any version of smith, to me this is a bit like aj and ruiz.
smith though i think did have legit issues, he's always been a tryer, even when vastly outgunned by canelo, so this non punching display is unprecedented for him. clearly he was rolling the ankle and having issues. that, combined with eubank simpling being on form and better, led to a very one sided fight

Re: Round-by-Round: Liam Smith vs. Chris Eubank Jr. II - 2 September 2023
Saturday night was a one-sided beatdown. There wasn't a single competitive round. Nothing that had come before in either man's career suggested that this would be the outcome of the bout.Fray Bentos wrote: ↑03 Sep 2023, 09:18Not at all, why? Smith was a light middleweight, Eubank was a big middleweight and both were around the same level - I expected Eubank to use his jab, movement, superior reach and movement to do what he did. What Smith did to him surprised me far more than what Eubank did last night.Ezzard wrote: ↑03 Sep 2023, 09:04 Smith barely threw a punch. Great for Eubank. But you cannot possibly say he wasn't compromised.
All the people saying last night was what they were expecting for the first fight are being a little dishonest.
Nobody predicted that Eubank would win every round and that Smith's output would be so low.
If you thought that Saturday night was how the fight would unfold then great for you. But the opinion was not based on anything that was informed by any of their previous fights.

Fvcking hell smith was landing 1 punch per minute. That is soooo bad.

it was a cringe to watch frankly .gregregegg wrote: ↑04 Sep 2023, 04:25 Fvcking hell smith was landing 1 punch per minute. That is soooo bad.
There really is a big question mark over the whole debacle.

I've seen thousands of boxing matches. That fight was a disgrace. I feel bad for all the people who bought tickets and paid for travel and hotels.

Shalom and smith are now revealing the back injury and weight issue post fight basically saying he was goosed from the off which they knew all about weeks and weeks ago .
( 3 stone for a middleweight is some huge pile of pies )
But they still went ahead rather than postpone it .

Frazer Clarke on Dave Allen's Low Blow Complaints: "He Was Trying To Take The Oscar Off Usyk!"paddy chavez wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 16:38 Dodgy as fornicate the Allen v Clarke fight ... Clarke should of been DQd then Allen retires end of the Rd....I just hope the white Rhino got a decent £££ to pull out ...
"I think Dave Allen was trying to take the Oscar off Usyk!" Clarke told Sky Sports. "He tried to play a good one and he wanted the referee to help him out, but it didn't work for him.
"We ain't got the VAR in boxing but when I do watch it back, I'll do my own VAR decision on it. Maybe one of them went south but we're in a boxing match, it's epic, it's heated and them things happen. It was never intentional but I'll watch it back and I don't think the rest of them were.
"He's a professional fighter but he's also a professional that knows he was losing the fight. I don't think he thought he was getting back into the fight and he wanted another payday. He was trying get a disqualification I believe in order to get a rematch and get paid again. Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong, but I've got a good inkling that it's the first one I said."
Allen took to social media and criticized his performance against Clarke.
"First of all my performance was poor," Allen said on Instagram. "Fighting an Olympic medalist after four years pretty much of inactivity was never going to be easy, but I am hugely disappointed with myself.
"My plan was to spoil and make it ugly early but when the time came to up the pace, I just couldn't find it in myself and I was fit and have no excuses. I just didn't do very well and it happens but very disappointing.
"The low blows were low but that's the game. I have no problem with what happened there. I would have hated to win by disqualification as I was second best. The end of the fight was a mixture of frustration and worry with my ear and mouth.
"In all honesty, I had not won a round and I had nothing left to give and another four rounds of punishment last night would have seen my career over. I'm a father and a coach and I see myself as I see my boys, I live to fight another day and more importantly I go home in one piece.
"I am disappointed but I trained hard and fought to the best of my abilities and I just wasn't good enough. I will just have to live with that and pick things up in a few weeks and decide on my next moves."

In the first 5 rounds Smith landed 2 jabs.
And people thought this was a good value PPV - FFS
looks even more suss when you see the punch stats, let alone Shalom stating he didn't' want the fight to be taken into the murky waters of having vada testing

You buy the ppv before the event, so ppv buys and wotnot don't always mean you're gonna get value for money.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑04 Sep 2023, 10:07 In the first 5 rounds Smith landed 2 jabs.

I know but some folk have said after the fight they thought it was good value - I'm just wondering what it was based on.
