All the report I've seen said hold luggage.
Boxing King Media has just done an interview with Dom Ingle and he said hand luggage, either way it's pretty sketchy.
Times must be hard for Ingle if he’s doing shifts at the airport

Wouldn't they just deport him, and not let him back.

I watched that programme on Canadian custom, Americans on holiday would get lost, not meaning to cross the border so they would be fined and have their guns taken off them.

Yep.

Went to Vegas for a week on holiday and my friend and I booked to go to a gun range one day. They send a driver to the hotel and then provide a lift back. On the way back the driver asked if we enjoyed it and we said we had. He then passed his gun behind to us to look at whilst saying ‘Be careful - it’s loaded’.

Not sure if he was joking.

Different world.

I went to Montana on holiday, I was 35 and it was tough to get in bars without id(my passport was my only id and didn't want to lose it) but bringing in guns to the pub(as long as they were on show) was no problem.

I suppose they were defending their kids against black folk...

His first rate lawyer will argue that Bomax (as the daft Sky girl kept calling him) was unaware of uk gun laws. He’ll tell us what a pivotal role Bomac’s charity work plays in rescuing underprivileged kids from a life of crime in his own community etc etc and he’ll end up getting a gentle slap on the wrist

With weaker security you can travel with guns on private jets. Possibly he arrived private and went back commercial but forgot about the gun in the bag. Or got a proper security check on the private return.

Well, you’re just a professional lawyer who does it for a job and knows the law and stuff.

The real experts on boxrec have predicted that he will be let off scot free by parroting some putatively ‘woke’ credentials.

What, no?

You astound me.

He obviously never told them about all the at risk kids he saves from a life of crime.

He needed a better lawyer by the sound of it, he’d have walked it if he’d given them a bit of a sob story.

He's in jail now until October at least, guns are zero tolerance under uk law, I feel for him if it's a genuine mistake and he just had it in his bag from a previous trip but he's likely to real serious jail time. I I wouldn't be surprised if there even stricker terror related laws about guns at airports etc

The trainer of Chris Eubank Jr was arrested by armed airport police after security officials found a loaded gun and ammunition in a suitcase.

Mail Sport understands Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre was detained amid dramatic scenes at Manchester Airport on Sunday morning.

The alarm was raised when a scan of the baggage – which had been checked in ahead of a flight – showed the weapon, along with a magazine inside.

Police officers with their own guns descended on the departure lounge at Terminal 2 and arrested 53-year-old McIntyre, who was due to fly to Atlanta, for possession of a firearm.

McIntyre, himself a former boxer from the United States, had overseen Eubank Jr’s comprehensive victory over Liam Smith in their middleweight rematch in the city on Saturday night.

The suitcase was checked in with little attempt to conceal the weapon, it is thought. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: ‘At around 10:45 am on Sunday 3 September 2023, officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.

‘After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized.

'Subsequently, a man has been arrested for possession of a firearm and remains in custody for further questioning.’

How the gun came to be in the suitcase will form part of the police’s probe. Officers will seek to establish whether it was brought into the UK – and if so how that happened – or purchased here.

McIntyre is widely regarded as one of the best trainers in the sport. He orchestrated what was Eubank’s career-best performance in the pair’s first fight together. Crawford is viewed by some as the finest pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

He has also been in the corner for former super-featherweight champion Jamel Herring and trained Amir Khan for his fight with Kell Brook last year.

McIntyre also trains US star Terence Crawford. The pair grew up on the same Omaha street and trained at the same gym.

Eubank Jr's team refused to comment when approached by Mail Sport.

He’s rich enough to afford a good lawyer. Plead innocence based on something like somebody else packed my bag and by some accident a gun was left in there and I had no idea it was even there. Plus some strings get pulled based on his community work.

I’ll bet money he doesn’t get sentenced to any UK prison time. Might not make bail though I guess he’s a flight risk. What a mess :brick:

I will take that bet. Taking an unlicensed firearm ( and by definition he can't be licensed in the U.K.) on an aircraft carries a 3-5 year prison sentence if found guilty.

A couple of other responses:

1. It's a strict liability offence which is precisely why you need to state when you check in that no one have you anything to carry and you packed your own bag.

2. You can't be legally deported instead of being tried under English law. You can be sentenced and then sent back to your home country to serve your prison time.

If it’s a strict liability offence, they need to get Benn’s lawyers on the case.

Section 1(1) of the Firearms Act 1968 creates an absolute offence of having possession of, purchasing or acquiring a firearm or ammunition without a certificate or otherwise than as authorised by such a certificate. Section 1(2) creates an offence of failing to comply with the conditions of such a certificate.

He's buggered. Not only with the possession, but if its a handgun then they're also prohibited in the UK. And if he brought it in to the country in the first place then it's another offence for importation. I'd say he's looking at 7 years minimum currently.

Very silly.

Apparently his lawyers are already drafting a 273 page document which nobody was allowed to see.

And he stuffed himself full of eggs at the buffet breakfast
