Agree that you can make a good argument for Foreman at #3 behind Ali and Louis. Weigh his quality wins against his losses and its pretty impressive. Most of your other picks are at least arguable Top 10 and some arguable for even the 3rd spot. Frazier is an oversight. Maybe you missed him by accident.

Kirk Johnson? :OhYes:

Jack Johnson is a fine pick for #3.

Ah yes i did forget JF how could I? Outrageous. he's hard to rate I always think. Foreman beat him so easily twice you'd fear for him against other big, powerful destroyer types. Looking at his record they matched hi quite carefully too really. then again, he was incredible against ali. I would put him around 8-12 somewhen there.

- I don't assume the OP premise.

IBRO the most comprehensive boxing org in the world first came out in 2005 with Louis #1, something I held ever since a child learning about boxing.

https://www.ibroresearch.com/wp-content ... t-2005.pdf

Boxrect History had a rankings smorgasbord back when where over 30 of us hashed this out in one of the higher efforts I've seen from forum members. If the OP is still around, he could bring it up.

In Ibro 2019 with old Louis guys having passed, Ali takes over, and when Ali guys pass, the new fighter takes over, so that's how ratings work in the real world starting with Nat who put together the first ever historical rankings in the 50s.

I do things different, but Louis still number uno for not only his record setting record never approached until Wlad, but how he fundamentally changed boxing for the betterment of boxing and that of mankind.

2.A Wlad
2.B Vit

After they emasculated American Boxing, today the TBA/Haymon dependent Deyonce the best Americans can come up with with Ukraine still holding on to the #1 spot as Flubber spits his dummy.

4. Jack Dempsey ushered in Boxing as a Spectacle Must See by the masses sport, and his destruction of Big Jess has never been equaled

5. Big George made the storied 90s look small, and was so internationally compelling in his comeback that the Chinese made an record setting offer for a Tyson Fight in Beijing. Alas, the Tiananmen Square massacre took place making the US State Department forbid traveling to China for a period. The derailing Tyson instead took a keeping busy fight in Japan vs Buster Douglas and the rest history.

Let you boys scrap over the rest of the placements.

Ali: Never once thought he was near the best, and saw him up close and personal where the press reported something different than what I saw because they didn't have my vantage point, so that and ducking Wilt on Cosell's ABC Sports Segment in what was projected as a huge international fight, well, he spit the dummy. To be fair, technically Herbert killed the fight, but Ali rolled over just the same and looked like some sillyputty schoolboy trying to match up to a grown man in Wilt who was being trained by Cus for this fight. There are zero sparmates then and now to match the one off athletic talents and physical capabilities of Wilt, and moreover, zero footage to view, so it was a bridge to far for Ali, but not for Wilt who used subsequent promotions to leverage bigger contracts as the first million dollar athlete in the world... :TU:

Would've been Amazing if Wilt had boxed. He was a tremendously phenomenal athlete and A freakish speciman of humanity, just to put it lightly.
His Strength was off the charts. I redd somewhere that he could do A 450 lb overhead press.
At 7'1 and 275 lbs, all Muscle, he could keep up with Football star wide receivers in sprints.
The overall power that he could generate, with various physical endeavors was absolutely off the charts.
Ali definitely would've been in for it had they boxed.
In A hypothetical MMA bout, I'd definitely have Wilt by 1st round submission tap-out. :geek:

Wilt had the size, the confidence, the physical gifts, and A top notch trainer in Cus D'Amato.

"Overhead pressing" (450) is Twice as impressive as "Benching" that amount of weight.

I think that Wilt would've been a taller version of Wilder.

I could see Wilt hitting a baseball 600 ft if he pursued baseball.

I think that Wilt could've thrown a 100 yard touchdown pass, shotgun(Screaming line drive style) if he had pursued becoming a football quarterback.

5 progressively challenging bouts(In one years time) and I think that Wilt could've been ready to box versus Ali.
His best chance would be to mix it up, with Jackhammer jabs, haymaker Wilder style right crosses, barreling in with killer uppercuts, and Also utilizing "clinching" and "leaning on" defensive tactics if he needed to catch a brief breather-break.

Damn man. I've heard of Bruce Lee worshippers. Even if he happened to have Wilder/Shavers natural power, Ali could take a great shot and certainly wouldn't have been hit by a combination of them. Could Wilt also move mountains and separate waters? :maybe:

These guys who claim Wilt could have beaten Ali are like guys claiming to be the next Warren Buffett but don't have a job yet. In 1970, put Wilt in with Chuvalo or Bonavena and see how he does. I'm not sure Wilt could have beaten Ron Stander or Terry Daniels.

A fight was proposed, accepted, contract drawn up with top sportscaster Howie Cosell willing to broadcast the historic signing of a huge International fight to be held in the Astrodome, The New 8th Wonder of the World where Ali had previously sought refuge.

Ali and Herbert saw Wilt up close and personal for the first time, and nix, no way jose was they gonna play this hand. Sorta like Flubber killing the guaranteed $150mil 50/50 Saudi split Eddie spent 2 months putting together to go poop the Deyonce rematch for peanuts. Ali ended up fighting Ancient Zora Folley before his suspension.

The Cosell segment of this moment of Ali's shame has been aired in this very section. Ali does his Ali shuffle that he unbelievably thought was gonna transform boxing and pops a jab at Wilt who does a slow pirouette backwards before coming up shining shoes, a hilarious rendition of what Ali was trying to accomplish.

Cus had a lot of admiration for Ali's Vietnam stance, so made a video he sold to the networks that raised considerable funds for the broke Ali's defense fund. Thus he talks with Ali in the video to tell him how Joe is gonna whoop him in MSG as Ali blusters away. They square up, Cus fakes a move he'd been training Buster Mathis on, and pops Ali in the mouth that cuts him before he knows what's up.

Buster never got a chance to fight prime to prime Ali, but when they did fight, the now 2 years rusty, way overweight with prediabetic syndrome like the other Buster Douglas years later had that ruined their careers, why that shot Buster made Ali work like a rented mule for his win that the people booed that further embarrassed Ali.

Wilt was being trained for one fight only because Cus was a huge admirer of his formidable athleticism and intelligence where Wilt could absorb his specialized training. There was no $$$ in boxing at that time compared to what Wilt was earning, so Wilt ran with it knowing boxing could never pony up the $$$ to match his millionaire status, but he was willing to do it vs Ali who spit the dummy along with Herbert, ie you simply don't know what you are talking about :TU:

Obviously, everyone has the right to their opinion. It's fair to say that Wilt Chamberlain is one of the greatest athletes of all time. He isn't just an all-timer in Basketball, his career in Volleyball is HOF-worthy. He was an extremely fascinating man outside of sports and the notorious "10,000 women" claim is probably the least interesting part of his story.

That being said, this discussion is ultimately about who might be the third best professional heavyweight boxer of all time. I'm not sure why he's even mentioned. It's as silly as suggesting a fighter could've completed with him on any court.

Regarding Wilt, it's silliness and fan worship. Marciano @ #3 isn't a bad choice. Holmes wouldn't be a bad choice for #3 either. Lennox Lewis is up there as well.

Why on earth would a basketball player beat prob the greatest heavyweight champ of all time on the street. It's ridiculous, What is chamberlain's fighting record? Did he ever fight a professional fighter no. He was a basketball player. Ali faced off and beat liston, foreman frazier but no, you think a basketball player is going to beat him. Pretty much nobody beats ali in the ring, and in contests outside a ring he's going to beat anyone that isn't a trained mma fighter. Certainly not going to get beaten by a big guy with zero fighting experience. Ali also has a fighters heart going life or death with some of the most fearsome fighters in history, you are making a huge assumption that wilt has that sort of steel. playing a sport is one thing, fighting is another.

Roger federer is a great as any sportsman but you don't hear people saying he'd beat michael spinks. Its all just silly.
