Is the Commonwealth title vacant at the moment? The Commonwealth council would likely sanction it as they’ve sanctioned fights outside of commonwealth countries before.

Terzievski Vs Opelu was for the vacant belt in March but it was a technical draw so I guess it's still up for grabs. Both these guys are ranked as contenders as well.

I think to take this fight wardly should have to drop his title and Adeley drop his rank..

Because what happens if Adeley wins, the title is a joke then.

But can’t do that now because there has been uncertainty, but moving fowards bbboc should make a rule if 2 Brit’s fight on foreign soil and one has the British then they drop the title befor the fight… just to stop potential messes.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was only the fighters who are stressed and heated, I get that, but bring mates along intent on starting a free for all is another.

It definitely has happened before albeit not in an overseas fight. I remember as a young lad watching mid-week boxing on sky in the 90s and watching Jon thaxton sparking out the then British champion Paul scrap iron Ryan in a non-title fight.

I remember watching that on Sky, was on a Skelton undercard where Skelton won the WBU belt. Earl was a plucky fighter, sad post-fight 'career' as he got sent down for a drugs case. Think he's back and training fighters iirc.

I remember this on Sky too, very bizarre fight. I remember being gutted cos Vanzie lost vs Earl as the headliner.

I understand but I suspect this has happened many times in the past.

I'm not sure it has at championship weight, has it? There are plenty of occasions at weights below heavy where a champion loses a non-title fight but it is invariably at over the championship limit - that used to be the traditional way in the 50s and 60s for a champion to get a look at a potential challenger before granting them a title fight. However, at heavyweight, it's harder to find a heavyweight champion (British, European, World) who has lost in a non-title fight to someone qualified to fight for their title. Only one I can immediately think of is a bit obscure - Jose Urtain lost a non-title fight on a DQ to Albert Vogrig while Urtain was EBU champion - see https://boxrec.com/en/event/23952 . Are there other examples?

Non title fights where you come in overweight are ok to lose.

I remember Neil Swain, who was not a natural super bantam, in the heat in South Africa, came in within the championship limit and lost, leaving the title vacant.

Board have said they will re consider the state of the title after this fight or similar wording.

Presumably means Wardley will be given a new mando after if he wins and be stripped if he loses.

Adeleye has posted the fight poster on his Instagram and it looks fairly official to me.

Commonwealth title on the line as well as WBO European and WBA international so the winner will be getting decent rankings out of it.
