Orzubek Nazarov vs Jean Baptiste Mendy

1: Mendy 10-9
2: Nazarov 10-9
3: Nazarov 10-9
4: Nazarov 10-9
5: Nazarov 10-9
6: 9-9 (Nazarov unfairly deducted a point after an incidental head clash)
7: Nazarov 10-9
8: Nazarov 10-9
9: Nazarov 10-9
10: Nazarov 10-9
11: Mendy 10-9
12: 9-9 (Nazarov again unfairly deducted a point after an incidental head clash)

Total: Nazarov 116-110

A one of the worst examples of the hometown judging and refering. Nazarov was effectively coming forward for all the fight. A lot of head clashes occured when Mendy was trying to save himself in clinches. It's interesting, that a one of the judges was Alexis Arguello, with a terrible 118-112 score for Mendy.

dmckenzie, totally love this fight. A real go-to when you want to see a war. I had it a bit closer than you, but here we go. California scoring in effect. 1 point for a winner of the round, an additional point if a knockdown is scored and no points for an even round.

Round 1: Mando
Round 2: Mando
Round 3: Even
Round 4: Sugar
Round 5: Mando
Round 6: Mando
Round 7: Sugar
Round 8: Sugar
Round 9: Sugar
Round 10: Mando

Total: 5-4 Mando Ramos (actual scores: 7-6 Mando, 5-4 Mando and 5-4 Sugar for a split win for Mando)

From rounds 3 to the end there is only minimal commentary due to the west coast TV station having to switch to the news and they would comment only sporadically. Again, what a war!

Davie, Arguello is without a doubt one of the most patient fighters I've ever seen.

Alexis Arguello v Lionel Hernandez (featherweight title)

Round 1: 10-10 Even
Round 2: 10-9 Arguello
Round 3: 10-9 Hernandez
Round 4: 10-9 Arguello
Round 5: 10-9 Arguello
Round 6: 10-9 Arguello
Round 7: 10-9 Arguello
Round 8: Arguello drops Hernandez and the referee intervenes on Arguello's followup

Total through 7 completed rounds: 69-65 Arguello

Arguello is as methodical as ever. His jab is popping all night and by the 8th Hernandez is cut on the right eye and badly swollen on the left, before Arguello shifts to the next gear. Always a joy to watch.

There's something that always amazes me watching him, he's really quite a slow puncher but still manages to be very accurate. Of course he has that reach over most fighter and his judgement of where the target is going to be must be fantastic. He's got one of those style where I just can't think of anyone who looked like that, or certainly not at the very elite level.

And as you say, very patient. Hernandez had some attributes that gave him something to think about but he just stuck to the task and you know that 99 times out of a hundred those long jabs or reaching left hooks to the body will start to break down his opponent.

Not a robbery necessarily as Foreman definitely landed the heavier punches throughout the bout, but Schulz just worked harder, and in my opinion deserved the fight.

116-112 Foreman

I was a little surprised at Grimsley's success early in this bout as I'd never heard anything about it being particularly competitive or anything, but he did well early. Foreman by this point though pretty much banked on his opponents tiring out, and him doing damage as the fight went on. After losing Round 4 to Foreman, Grimsley comes out and gives all that he has left in Round 5. He has to spend the rest of the fight just surviving pretty much. He opens a cut on Foreman in the 12th which could've potentially gotten him the round if it hadn't spurred Foreman on to get more aggressive and in turn open a cut on Grimsley right back.

Reasonably fun fight to watch. Interesting to revisit the final fights of Foreman's career.

So I come out with 115-113 Holmes, there were a few swing rounds in there which depending on how you may score them you can wind up with a different score that's perfectly reasonable.

Basically though I think Holmes just barely survived this kid, and made it through with his Championship intact. That 9th round was one of the toughest challenges of his career. I think he was in more danger there than he was when he got knocked down by Shavers.

Michael Nunn 115-114

First time I ever watched this fight in it's entirety, and I always remember telling one of my casual boxing buddies who was watching it live, that Michael Nunn is a future Hall of Famer and the heir to Sugar Ray Leonard. He ended up telling me that he thought Nunn was a showboating jackass who he took an instant dislike to, and said Barkley deserved the decision.

Despite losing most of the audience due to his style, Nunn busted up Barkley and looked as fresh in the 12th as he did in the 1st. On the other hand, he could have done a much better job of counterpunching considering some of the opportunities he had.

Couple more Michael Nunn fights. First his bout with Randall Yonker. Nunn won every round on my card with a few being close, and still didn't look that impressive against a crude opponent he allowed to stay around too long before getting down to business and ending it in the 10th with a big flurry. Low point in the fight for MN was when he got tagged while looking at Don King.

Michael Nunn vs Victor Cordoba I

R1.10-10 Even
R2.10-9 VC
R3.10-9 VC
R4.10-9 VC
R5.10-9 MN
R6.10-9 VC
R7.10-9 MN
R8.10-10 Even
R9.9-9 Even 1pt deducted from VC for low blow
R10.10-8 VC MN down from an overhand left
R11.10-9 MN
R12.10-9 MN

115-113 Victor Cordoba

Very disappointing performance from Nunn, who showed flashes of brilliance, but for the most part, just lacked the Eye of the Tiger. Only in the last 2 rounds, when he needed a KO on my card did he display a sense of urgency.

Still on a big Michael Nunn kick.

Michael Nunn v Victor Cordoba II

1.9-9 Even 1 pt from VC for a low blow
2,10-7 MN VC down twice
3.10-9 MN
4.10-9 MN
5.10-9 MN
6.10-9 MN
7.10-9 MN
8.10-9 MN
9.10-10 Even
10.10-9 MN
11.10-8 MN 1 pt from VC for a low blow
12.10-9 MN

Michael Nunn 119-106

Cordoba definitely should have been disqualified for his Golotian body attack, which in my opinion saved him from being stopped. Otherwise this was a brilliant performance from Nunn.

Michael Nunn v Steve Little

1.10-8 SL Nunn down from a left to the head and a flurry
2.10-9 MN
3.10-9 MN
4.10-9 MN
5.10-9 MN
6.10-9 MN
7.10-9 SL
8.10-9 MN
9.10-9 MN
10.10-9 SL
11.10-10 Even
12.10-9 SL

Michael Nunn 115-113

Not a great performance by Nunn, though at times he dominated the action. Still losing by 6-3-1 pts was undeserved.

Michael Nunn v Frank Liles

1.10-9 MN
2.10-9 FL
3.10-9 FL
4.10-9 MN
5.10-9 FL
6.10-8 FL 1 pt taken from MN for low blow
7.10-9 MN
8.10-10 Even
9.10-9 MN
10.10-9 MN
11.10-10 Even
12.10-9 MN

Michael Nunn 115-114

Another close one with Nunn pulling it out on my card in the final round

Michael Nunn v Graciano Rocchigiani

Might come as a shock, but I gave Nunn the 9th and 12th, and had him losing (often narrowly) everything else for a score of 118-110 to Rocchigiani. Nunn simply used a bad strategy. GR kept his hands high and appeared to block the vast majority of the multitude of jabs Nunn through and then effectively countered. In my opinion (zero champions managed :D ) Nunn should have gone heavily to the body and then countered any leads from GR.

I had Briedis, who was very accurate with his punches, ahead by 1 at the halfway point, but Usyk was just too busy for him in the second half. Didn't see this one as close as the judges.

Montell Griffin 115-113

After watching I and II I'm now convinced the judges got it right both times. Through 8 Toney looked slightly better, but then Griffin left no doubt that he was in the better shape of the two, showing he had the quicker hands and more gas in the tank.

As a side note, this is only the second time I can ever remember giving both fighters a 10-8 round without a knockdown. The other occasion was Marcel-Arguello.

Hey everyone,

I just signed up for Boxrec. I used to have lots of scorecards over at Eye on the Ring, but unfortunately I have lost them due to the site going down in the Summer of 2024. I just watched the Mayweather vs. Castillo fights again the other night and scored them:

Floyd Mayweather vs. Jose Luis Castillo I (4-20-2002)

R1: 10-9 Mayweather
R2: 10-9 Mayweather
R3: 10-9 Mayweather
R4: 10-9 Mayweather
R5: 10-9 Castillo
R6: 10-9 Castillo
R7: 10-9 Castillo
R8: 10-8 Mayweather (1 pt. deduction to Castillo for hitting on the break)
R9: 10-9 Castillo
R10: 9-9 Even (1 pt. deduction to Mayweather for use of his elbow in the clinch)
R11: 10-9 Castillo
R12: 10-9 Castillo

113-113 Even

Floyd Mayweather vs. Jose Luis Castillo II (12-7-2002)

R1: 10-9 Mayweather
R2: 10-9 Mayweather
R3: 10-9 Mayweather
R4: 10-9 Mayweather
R5: 10-9 Castillo
R6: 10-9 Castillo
R7: 10-9 Mayweather
R8: 10-9 Mayweather
R9: 10-9 Mayweather
R10: 10-9 Mayweather
R11: 10-9 Mayweather
R12: 10-9 Castillo

117-111 Mayweather

Another fight which I watched recently was the final fight, the Championship fight, of the 1967-68 WBA Heavyweight Championship Tournament between Jimmy Ellis and Jerry Quarry. I understand that it was not scored on the 10 point must system at the time, but I scored it according to the 10 point must system regardless. I scored it as follows:

Jimmy Eliis vs. Jerry Quarry (4-27-1968)

R1: 10-9 Ellis
R2: 10-9 Quarry
R3: 10-9 Ellis
R4: 10-9 Ellis
R5: 10-9 Quarry
R6: 10-9 Quarry
R7: 10-9 Ellis
R8: 10-9 Ellis
R9: 10-9 Ellis
R10: 10-9 Ellis
R11: 10-9 Ellis
R12: 10-9 Quarry
R13: 10-9 Quarry
R14: 10-9 Ellis
R15: 10-9 Ellis

145-140 Ellis

I am not sure why my username is just a number like that. My real name is Nathan Towne.

Another fight which I recently scored was Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov from March of 2013 which I had still never seen. What a fight! Bradley really took some unnecessary risks in fighting it out with Provodnikov as much as he did. I scored it as follows:

Timothy Bradley vs. Ruslan Provodnikov (3-16-2013)

R1: Provodnikov 10-9
R2: Provodnikov 10-9
R3: Bradley 10-9
R4: Bradley 10-9
R5: Bradley 10-9
R6: Provodnikov 10-9
R7: Bradley 10-9
R8: Bradley 10-9
R9: Bradley 10-9
R10: Bradley 10-9
R11: Bradley 10-9
R12: Provodnikov 10-8 (Bradley knocked down)

115-112 Bradley

It was a savage fight, but I think that Bradley won it and that it was well scored by the judges.

Let me put up some more which I have recently re-watched and scored (again). Here are the first two fights between Alvarez and GGG.

Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez I (9-16-2017)

R1: 10-9 Golovkin
R2: 10-9 Alvarez
R3: 10-9 Alvarez
R4: 10-9 Golovkin
R5: 10-10 Even
R6: 10-9 Golovkin
R7: 10-9 Golovkin
R8: 10-9 Golovkin
R9: 10-9 Golovkin
R10: 10-9 Alvarez
R11: 10-9 Alvarez
