Press Release

Angel Fierro continues to hammer on the door for a World title shot, and he’ll look to add more weight to those claims when he defends his WBO NABO Lightweight title against Brayan Zammaripa on Friday September 15 at the Auditorio Municipal Fausto Gutierrez Moreno in Tijuana, Mexico.

Fierro (21-1-2 17 KOs) is sitting pretty at #4 with the WBO, and the 25 year old gets a hometown outing as he looks to build on his growing reputation for exciting performances.

‘Tashiro’ was at his explosive best in his last outing with multiple knockdowns leading to a seventh round stoppage win over Eduardo Estela in Culiacan – a fifth KO in his last six fights – and a run he’ll be looking to improve upon against Zammaripa (13-1 4 KOs), the Baja California man who has recorded ten wins on the bounce since his sole defeat in 2016.

“I am very happy to return to my home Tijuana,” said Fierro. “But I am even more excited because I am very close to a World Title fight. I'm very focused on giving a great show to my people.”

“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for, for a long time,” said Zammaripa. “I respect Tashiro, but this is my moment. I’m coming to his neighborhood, but this is my territory. Civil War is coming September 15 and I’m leaving with Tashiro’s belt. Viva Mexico.

Erika Cruz (15-2 3 KOs) will return to action on the card following her thrilling battle with Amanda Serrano for the undisputed Featherweight crown in New York in February, and ‘Dinamita’ will look to get back on the path to regaining her World champion status over ten rounds against Melissa Oddessa Parker (6-1 2 KOs)

“I am 100 percent prepared,” said Cruz. “That night the national guard and I will be celebrating our Independence Day with one more victory for the Dinamita!”

Sabrina Perez-Skye Nicolson Interim Title Fight Added To September 15 DAZN Show In Tijuana

Skye Nicolson will travel to Mexico in her quest to land a major title shot.

The 2020 Australian Olympian will challenge interim WBC featherweight titlist Sabrina Maribel Perez. The scheduled ten-round fight comes in supporting capacity to the Angel Fierro-Brayan Zamarripa lightweight main event atop Matchroom Boxing’s September 15 DAZN show in Tijuana, Mexico.

“September 15th I am challenging for the WBC interim world title,” Nicolson confirmed through her verified social media channels. “One step closer to the big fights I know I am ready for. I can’t wait to be back on the world stage- this time in Mexico. AND THE NEW… 8-0 Let’s go!”

Nicolson (7-0, 0 KOs) has fought three times each in the U.S. and the U.K. and once in her native Australia over the course of a pro career which began just last March in San Diego, California. She has since emerged as the WBC mandatory challenger to undisputed featherweight queen and record-setting seven-division titlist Amanda Serrano.

The number-one ranking was earned in a ten-round win over unbeaten Tania Alvarez on February 4 in New York City. The bout was fittingly part of a DAZN show that was headlined by Serrano’s thrilling win over Erika Cruz to fully unify all the strawweight titles.

Cruz (15-2, 3 KOs)—who held the WBA belt heading into that night—also appears on the September 15 show in a scheduled ten-round contest versus Melissa Odessa Parker (6-1, 2 KOs).

Argentina’s Perez (18-1-1, 2 KOs) attempts the first defense of the interim WBC title she claimed in a ten-round virtual shutout of Colombia’s Yolis Marrugo Franco last March 19 in her Isidro Casanova hometown.

Also announced as part of the show is a terrific matchup between Tijuana’s own Kevin Barron Crespo (12-0, 9KOs) and San Diego’s Christian Olivo (20-1-1, 7 KOs) in a scheduled ten-round featherweight contest.

Liked Fierro last time against Estela, these cards look poverty to some people but they small hall Matchroom shows in Mexico and America are usually entertaining

Main events fun, I missed the rest as I don’t know anyone on the card and it’s a day earlier than I thought….

These mex cards are interesting, low quality fighters, high quality fights, cheap purses, but low viewership.

Great fight the main event. :box: :maybe:
Great crowd on their feet - including Fast Eddie - nice to see he still enjoys getting really into it.

The Dec is booed a bit, but 96-94, 94-96, 96-95 is a razor thin 1pt win.

Understand Zama being very upset, but can't see much wrong with that ? :maybe:

Incredible fight had it 96-94 Fierro but couldn't argue with Zamarripa getting it or the draw, it was action packed from the start and it was wasn't messy, the ref was only involved when the tape was loose apart from that he had a quiet night, Zamarripa came out guns blazing, whipping in hard body shots and outboxing Fierro who just marched forward, you sensed that Zamarripa couldn't keep up the pace and Fierro would grind him down but he got on just fine, he hurt Fierro to the body in the 7th but Fierro rallied well and he hurt Zamarripa once or twice but Zamarripa had a beard to go with his heart, Fierro looked to be coming on strong but Zamarripa was still hanging, great fight, one of the best of the year, right man won for me but wouldn't begrudge Zamarripa getting it

From what I saw (half a fight half watching) it was very very close. My only problem with the decision is the predictability that it goes to the A-side.

Draw would have been more than fair, point or 2 either way is hard to be mad at.

One cracker of a fight that should have been a draw.

However, why has the card disappeared from the site?
