IBF SCHEDULES PURSE BID FOR NUNEZ VS. BARRETT BOX-OFF

On August 23rd, the IBF ordered Eduardo Nunez and Zelfa Barrett to begin negotiations for an IBF junior lightweight "box off." An agreement was not reached within the time frame allowed by the sanctioning body, so the IBF has scheduled a purse bid for Tuesday, September 19th at 12:00 PM. Barrett, from the United Kingdom, is 29-2. He lost a competitive 2022 challenge for the IBF title to Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov. Joe Cordina that defeated Rakhimov and is the reigning IBF title holder. Nunez, form Mexico, is 24-1. His lone loss came early in his career, and though he has never fought outside of Mexico, he has stepped up his level of competition lately.

can never underestimate a mexican. but these 100 percent ko win guys are more often than not can crushers who fail when stepping to this level. if you're knocking out all your opponents in mexico you certainly arent fighting anywhere near their better fighters or building the experience that comes with that

Just says

A purse bid hearing scheduled for Tuesday was canceled when the sanctioning body was informed that Barrett was no longer interested in proceeding with the process.

I think the real reason is:

Nunez (24-1, 24KOs) has won his last fourteen bouts, all by knockout and none which have gone beyond the tenth round.
