Ron Lyle vs. Chuck Wepner

Post by scorpio83 »

10 to 15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout

Lyle would overwhelm "The Bayone Bleeder" behind his jabs and right hands to stop him on the cut eye stoppage from rounds 4 to 8. What do you guys think and who do you got

Ron Lyle wins this match big, most likely by stoppage. As for Wepner, I have no doubt he'd earn glory for putting on a gutty performance as long as it lasted.

I too would expect this to end between the fourth and eighth rounds. It's really just a question of how long it takes Lyle to get untracked, after which he'd pound Wepner. The ending could be a clean KO, or with Chuck dazed and reeling, or because of cuts.

Wepner could take a great shot, but Lyle had devastating KO power in both mitts. That's why I don't overlook the possibility that he'd put Chuck down for the count.

Another possible - but unlikely - ending is that Wepner survives 12 rounds and loses a decisive decision. Chuck was pretty tough, so we can't rule out that this goes to the scorecards.

Can't rule out that it goes to the cards, but like you, I'd lean more toward Lyle knocking him out. I don't even think it'd be a cuts stoppage. I think he'd knock him out.
