Ben Shalom
Re: Ben Shalom
Think if you look at the bigger picture , just who is around for him to work with , Clarke for example is a complete waste of time , but AJ is'nt leaving Hearn , Fury aND THE OTHERS ARE NOT LEAVING wARREN IN A HURRY AND SO FORTH SO ON

Re: Ben Shalom
When you don’t have the established names then you need to try and create them, and also make good, competitive fights whilst keeping fighters active.
They’ve done a good job for CBS AND Adam Azim too but they’re not putting on enough shows on regular Sky Sports or enough fights I’m interested in.
Clarke has been reasonably active but instead of a good competitive fight against Wardley we got a poor one against Dave Allen.
I do worry for the long term future of boxing on Sky. Sky will want PPV stars and I just can’t see where they’re coming from at the moment and even to the end of Boxxer’s current deal with Sky (which ends some point in 2025).

Another person who needs looking at is the
Matchmaker.
Whilst the promoter wants his fighters to win,
Its the job of the matchmaker to make fights that are competitive and entertaining.

Does anyone know how Adam Smith is? I have no idea what was wrong but hope whatever it was has passed and that he is on the mend. I miss his presence. Very passionate about boxing and seems like a good guy.

I agree with what you say. I didn’t mind him as a commentator (wasn’t the best, wasn’t the worst) but seemed like a good bloke with a passion for the sport.

Smith wasn't a good boxing commentator but he was good at championing home fighters - There is a big difference.

Re: Ben Shalom
In fairness to the matchmaker, the job they are given by the promoter is to bring someone in to lose to the home fighter.

When is the Sky contract up for renewal?
Will Sky retain Shalom or will they eat some humble pie?
Or are there some people out there who feel Shalom is doing ok?

Re: Ben Shalom
It’s up to July 2025.
I can’t see how anyone can say they’re doing a good job.
The issue Sky have is that they’d have invested a lot of time into the boxers themselves and trying to make them names. Guys like Adam Azim will be around world title level then if he keeps progressing and they may not want to lose him/any others so may well re-sign. Particularly if there’s not a big name promoter ready to step in.
My bigger concern will be whether Sky Sports continue showing U.K. boxing. Boxing doesn’t generate big viewer numbers compared to other cheaper sports and it’s now more infrequent on Sky Sports than I’ve ever known it before.

7 for me, still very young, made loads of mistakes, but made some good fights.
Re: Ben Shalom
From an outsiders point of view , I say outsider because i don't live in the UK , but i do get sky coverage , and its NEVER been has dismal the quality just is'nt there , i wonder how long they will be around the big names are pricing themselves out of the market , theres not enough talent coming through , womens boxing is taking control , because i assume its cheap , all in all not a good time for boxing ,
I look forward to the big American shows , seem to be the only place you get 50-50 good fights , other than that i have found myself going to more live ameteur shows to get my boxing fix , at least there especielly championships , its real 50-50 fights and you get to see some good talent .
Managers / promoters / and leeches are taking over and ruining the sport ,

How do you think the quality of U.K. boxing on Sky Sports at the moment compares to other times?SeanBrennan wrote: ↑06 Oct 2023, 16:21 7 for me, still very young, made loads of mistakes, but made some good fights.
We used to have loads of U.K. boxing on Sky Sports in the early 2000s. Shows most weeks but the quality would often be poor and FW would be the only one fairly regularly putting on arena shows. We’d occasionally get good fights but it felt like a good era as we’d get so much to watch.
This was followed by the Matchroom where we didn’t get as many shows but the quality of shows was better on average than previously.
For me, we’re now getting less U.K. boxing on Sky Sports than ever before and the quality isn’t particularly good. We get the occasional good fight/show like the Azeez/Buatsi fight but this is the first fight I’m looking forward to on normal Sky Sports since probably CBS fighting for the title.

Boxxer is definitely the worst era for Sky Boxing. I don't think anyone can dispute that.
Re: Ben Shalom
At least when FW was putting on British Title eliminators in the guise of WBU titles, they were really good fights.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑07 Oct 2023, 07:38 Boxxer is definitely the worst era for Sky Boxing. I don't think anyone can dispute that.
We are getting really poorly matched fights, and then they stick on 3 women's title fights to save the day.

I've got Dazn and BT Sport/Tnt and wouldn't dream of paying for Sky for boxing. It's irrelevant, even Ch5 is pummelling them into the ground at the moment.

Yeah. That’s why I was surprised you gave Shalom a 7. If that was correct then I’d dread to think what we’d have if he was on a 5 or less!SeanBrennan wrote: ↑07 Oct 2023, 11:58poorly. hahaha no worries. I need to also point out that my perceptions where boxing are concerned are not to be trusted. I have only bet on boxing twice and one of them was for Audley to KO Haye :)maverick23 wrote: ↑08 Oct 2023, 05:50Yeah. That’s why I was surprised you gave Shalom a 7. `A great one was when Henry Castle fought Ian Wilson, spoke only about Castle up until the moment he was knocked out. Re: Ben Shalom
The trouble with boxxer stable is 90% of the fighters are just boring or trade fighters who never will be a big casual name. Most boxxer bills have been pretty dire.
