That was one of the most incredible finishes I’ve seen in years.

Josh Warrington is a hard hard man, Jesus Christ. He was like a rock in there, and Wood was taking a career ending beating.

Then, to pull out those punches ….that was something else.

Very hungover but happy. Some fight and the arena was electric, if a bit aggy. The second the result came out me and my mate just absolutely legged it out of there.

Be surprised if either has more than 2 fights left.

If Inoue beats Tapales he’ll almost certainly move up straight away. Can’t see Wood beating him even if he does hang about at 9st

Woods is another Steve Robinson type Cinderella-Man.

The Gods are definitely looking after him - again he looks well beaten - then bang; another superb win. The rematch would be good, and it would again be a 50/50 .. Warrington was proper buzzed, but felt sorry for him somewhat there. If he had took a knee or even just faced the ref I think he`d have had a good chance of seeing the round out.

Terri Harper seems a really nice person and best of luck to her. However she really emphasises womens boxing .. its dire. Lauren Price would batter her for sure.
Lauren price ain't battering anyone. Shes bringing pillows to the fight and skipping around the ring tapping away to the opponent. Harper has always been dire, just a girl who walked into a gym late and got all this hype, money, coverage off very low talent.I don't begrudge these women making a living but has it increased or decreased the enjoyment of watching boxing? Maybe the long time watchers such as ourselves are a different breed.
Point taken - and I agree :TU:
Batter her is a wrong phrase. Hit her from pillar to post possibly better phrase (even if they are feather dusters).

Got to like Terri Harper though. She seems proper down to earth and without inflated ego. I glad she has had an opportunity to make a decent bit of money.
Apparently she is considering moving down to 140 or 147 because 154 is too big for her. Eddie has been clever enough to move her up to the higher weight class where there is close to zero talent to pick up a worlds title ... but inevitably she will have to meet someone half decent at the weight who will possibly really damage her ... I think thats where the danger of womens boxing and fighting well out of their natural weight class presents itself.

Agreed - unfortunately both guys likely be walking on their heels in later life.

Woods would probably be walking on his heels by the end of the evening if he was ever put in with the Monster. Not a good fight for Woods if your thinking about his long-term health ... but would money over rule that if offered it?

You start thinking about Matthew Saad Muhammed, miracle Matthew and his back from the brink victories in the 80’s.

Leigh’s currently got a terrible nickname, they should change it to “the miracle man” Leigh Wood

I won’t win many friends on here by suggesting this ……… maybe it’s down to Ben Davison’s input :maybe:
Ben got the stoppage in the first Lara fight bang on, Wood done the bizz in the rematch, done the bizz here as well, Brent Davison doing bits
He’s not though. Lara didn’t turn up in the rematch, Conlan boxed his ears of before Wood caught him (full credit to wood not the trainer) and same again last night. What has Ben done with Wood in all honesty. He looked very easy to hit last night with his chin in the air. Wood has got devasting power that has pulled him through on a number of occasions I can’t give the trainer credit for that
He is though, fights last 12 rounds, Wood iced Conlan so bad I thought he was dead, Wood schooled Lara in the rematch, we can dissect why Lara was so poor but are we gonna do that every time a guy loses? And Wood flattened Warrington

If you want to debate the importance of trainers in general then thats another argument altogether

I’m cooking up a thread idea after last night.

For lack of a better term, the “footballifacation” of boxing. Just wanna get some quick ideas off you lot. Like I said earlier, first time I’ve been a fully segregated boxing match and I’ve been a lot of shows.

Is it purely financial, maybe tribal? If boxing was as popular as it used to be would it not need to happen?

Or am I just overthinking?

Seems like they are looking at feeding Wood to Cordina to put Cordina over more. Both will make a lot of money form a fight at the City ground.

i quite enjoy the various fights that kick off in the crowd at big boxing events, as long as it's just handbags. the Royal Albert Hall is perfect for this, up in the balconies etc. last time i was there i had the boxing, a crowd fight in front of me and one behind me in the balcony with a big warrior woman leading the charge.

segregation could end a lot of that :verysad:

I’ve seen many many posters here say they hate the fights in the crowd. Someone mentioned being with kids or elderly relatives. I love watching them I think it’s hilarious like.

It’s not a good idea for the sport to incite violence ever and there’s no way any promoter or broadcaster will ever say anything to that effect.

Boxing fans have bad songs, too. Some footy songs are great.

I've seen mainly comedy crowd fights. nothing bad.

I'd imagine a tribal, segregated crowd like last night would be much less fun.

definitely not a fan of footballification of boxing

I feel asleep just before this started, gutted! Enjoyed watching it this morning though. I did feel a bit sorry for Warrington, he was doing really well. His dad was gutted too. Wood has such perseverance though, nobody would have predicted his career trajectory in 2020. Amazing.

Seen some huge football rucks at the boxing (West Ham getting battered by Yardes lot at the Copper Box and a huge fight in Barnsley at a Carl Thompson Euro title match probably the worst).

Last night had the potential to turn very ugly and sounds like they did everything they could to avoid it.

Exceeded my expectations.
Good quality exciting bout.
Rematch makes sense but it'll be at a heavier weight by all accounts.
Very entertaining.

Yarde’s lot probably had a tougher fight than him given the feeble state of most of his copper box opponents. :OhYes:

Now that Ted Cheeseman has stepped back, surely Leigh Wood is filling those shoes as England's most entertaining fighter?

Ben Whittaker and Prince Patel will be gutted that you think that.
