Frank Bruno vs Old George Foreman (1996).

Post by EdwardRevolver1993 »

Old version of George Foreman against Frank Bruno in late 1995-early 1996.

Plot: Frank Bruno, who just won the WBC belt from Oliver McCall vs. George Foreman, who was stripped of his IBF title shortly after a controversial win over Axel Schulz, but was still the linear champ.

How do you see it going?

I pick Bruno by decision. His stiff, fast, hurtful left-jab would probably make the difference.

Nonethless, I do think Foreman would have an outside chance of outsmarting Bruno and making him walk into a powerful, fighting-ending right hand. The old version of Foreman definitely had a high boxing IQ, He was the 1990s version of Archie Moore, IMO.

If Foreman wins, it would probably be a come from behind victory in the second half of the fight.

Overall, 75% chance of Bruno win against 25% of Foreman taking it.

I think, that's a reasonable analysis. Though, where I do feel old George has an upper hand is chin, mental stability and, as crazy as it sounds, conditioning. I do believe that even that version of George, who was flabby, was more consistent in terms of measuring his resources (stamina) through the course of the fight.

By 1996, the old great George Foreman went through a lot of ring wars. He was through. After beating Michael Moore for the heavyweight crown in 1994, Foreman should have been called it quits.

Frank Bruno by decision in 1996.
