has this REALLY damaged boxing?
We hear a lot about decisions "damaging" boxing but in reality nothing changes, however this is REALLY getting slated.
Personally I thought fury won by a kunt hair, and should be ashamed of himself, but I'm reading loads of "robbery" claims. to me a robbery is when a fighter wins by 3 or more and doesnt get it. I couldnt say francis won by those margins.

Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
I didn't think Fury done much at all in that fight, he was gun shy, his usual holding/leaning didn't work because Francis was stronger. His pot shots on the outside were far too few and far between. Every round looked to me like Ngannou posed a riddle that Fury just couldn't figure out.
As for damaging boxing, I think when people suspect corruption it seriously does. allegedly told Fury they'd given him the fight before Buffer read the scores. The judges know where their bread is buttered.
Half of my feels like a Teddy Atlas rant, the other half is past caring now.

if there is even a debate about whether hw champ beat an 0-0 opponent, and i think the decision easily couldve gone the other way my self - then no it's not a good look for boxing

Hopefully nobody watched it!
All will be forgotten if he beats Usyk well
Nevertheless a rematch for the title is on the cards

Had a quick glance around some of the media sites, it's not going well for Fury, and likewise for boxing.

The boring concert, the shocking performance, the predictable card… all bad for boxing.
This event is very unlikely to convert many MMA fans to boxing fans.

Damaged? No.
Embarrassed? Yes.
But certainly doesn’t help the sport in any way. Heavyweight boxing is in a fvcking terrible state with Fury anywhere near the top of it.

Who gives a shit about boxing anymore? You have to move with the times and as in most sports these days Saudi owns it all. Those judges will have been paid off. Fury didn't win that fight and all good honest fans and sports writers know it.
Do you think without Saudi money Newcastle United would be where they are?

Not a good look for boxing. But hopefully exposes the fat gypsy con that is Tyson Fury. Been swindling a living for years.
I bet another “mental health” episode is upcoming.

Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
The scoring was to be expected, even though Fury had precious little success throughout the fight. That horrible awkward style didn’t seem to faze Ngannou at all.
How much “damage” was done to boxing is hard to say, it wouldn’t be so bad if Fury was rightly left out of conversations regarding the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. That’s the real cringe inducing part.

Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
I dunno, would Inoki-Ali have damaged boxing if it happened in the social media era?

Not watched the fight myself yet - but from what I reading it appears once again Fury has ruined his already toxic brand.
The razor thin win over an ancient Wlad. The wins over the as over rated Wilder .. and a lot of talk are about all Tyson Fury has achieved.
It's a car crash for his legacy when this version of AJ is being touted as KO-ing him in a hand ful of rounds.
Not sure where this leaves Usyk.
Will Fury be contracted to do the 23rd Dec fight against Usyk or forfeit the 3 fight deal?
Will a Ngannou rematch be commercially bigger now?

That was ruined by its daft rules. They should've let Inoki use low kicks but banned him from touching down.

Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
Nah, boxing has been ruined long ago, this has improved it any but it would take a lot more than this to do it any more damage.
All people want to see is competitive and exciting fights between two well matched fighters and some knockouts - which is why these 'misfit' fights are popular because they're for the most part evenly matched and have a go - nobody cares if somebody who no-one has ever heard of can throw a triple left hook and is fighting a load of 60-54's - who wants to watch that? Most people aren't that arsed about amazing skill levels if they're not fighting on a level equal to them and I am one of them and if that makes me a 'casual' so be it.
If boxing doesn't sort itself out in the next five years misfits/celebrity/freak show boxing will start to take over - now, that is where the money is! When you have Bredis calling out Jake Paul - that should tell everyone where we are at.

Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
it has damaged boxing because the so-called number one in the sport was pushed so close by an absolute novice. Ngannou would probably beat Joshua and Wilder. Not sure about Usyk but it's a possibility.

I don’t think that’s right. I think Ngannou would lose badly to everyone else. Joshua and Wilder would obviously take him to pieces.

Come on mate. You can’t mean that?
They would deal with him easily.
Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
I’m not suddenly on an Ngannou bandwagon, but I don’t think anything is obvious when we’re talking about Joshua and Wilder, aside from their own weaknesses.
Re: has this REALLY damaged boxing?
Yesterday I would have thought it impossible but now I'm not so sure. We have to deal with what we actually saw. If Fury is the best of the lot then a case can be made for Ngannou beating the men Fury would beat too.Frostieballs wrote: ↑29 Oct 2023, 05:33Come on mate. You can’t mean that?

We're talking about a gunshy AJ and a Wilder who doesn't have the best boxing skill too.

Even after last nights outcome it seriously irritates me how the BBBofC sanctioned a fight between The Heavyweight Champion Of The World and a
Person who has never boxed professionally before.
