I think Sunny Edwards and Carl Frampton have been great finds on the commentary mic.
I always liked Richie Woodhall but he does have his moments where he is off.

you're showing your age with the Hurd reference James! Funny analogy though.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑06 Nov 2023, 17:33 My main beef is that he sounds like Douglas hurd with a throat infection doing an impression of Shaggy when he's commentating.
That and the fact that much of what he says is clichéd cack, or tonally at odds with what's occurring in the ring, often he's cranking it up, like a six year old who got the evel knievel toy on Christmas morning.
It makes me want to gouge out my ear canals with knitting needles.
Other than that, don't mind him.
glad he's beat cancer.

I've never really minded Smith, i'm usually too engrossed with the fight itself to pay heed to what's being said.
I wish him well in his recovery now that it's been disclosed as to why he had been absent.

He appeared to be the middle man between promoter and network and essentially did quality control for Sky Sports boxing. I have to say the quality has been a lot worse since he hasn’t been around and I can’t remember a time when U.K. boxing on Sky has been as bad as it has been this year.
I’m glad to hear he’s seemingly doing ok after his battle with cancer. I did get the impression though that he’s leaving Sky based on his Instagram post. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.
I think he was good when he was moonlighting as the presenter and chatting to the pundits for their expert opinions pre and post fight. He had enough knowledge to give good opinions himself and was good at getting good opinions out of the pundits and challenging them on their opinions. I could see him actually being good at that job rather than a Dave Darts type. He could shill the volleyball also.

Smith was instrumental in the current SKY line up, so not sure he deserves a pass for the current stable being as it is.

There may still be an element of truth to the gambling/other stuff. I do find it strange that he’s seemingly leaving Sky after he’s been there so long when he wants to work on a ‘broader canvas’. You’d have thought Sky would be the perfect place for that.handsofstone wrote: ↑07 Nov 2023, 09:51 Jim Lampley is the biggest growler of them all and is the

I really enjoy Sunny on the mic, very good. I'm a fan of Andy Lee as well. Neither of them have been microchipped with total bias towards the home fighter.jameswilson wrote: ↑07 Nov 2023, 03:08 I think Sunny Edwards and Carl Frampton have been great finds on the commentary mic.

Don’t you find it odd that not only did Sky never mention he had cancer, a guy who’d worked for them for 10 years, nor did Adam on his social media and then he was let go, again without Sky making any mention of his illness or why he was let go… a little bit suspicious?handsofstone wrote: ↑08 Nov 2023, 11:39You think the man is gonna make up having cancer ffs, he's got kids, you think someone like Adam Smith would do that? Nothing was in fact said at all by either smith or Sky from the moment they dropped him out of the blue until now??! You think if a guy who’d been at Sky for 30 years was ill there wouldn’t be at least a ‘thoughts and prayers’ type post? No everyone just went silent. Until smith (not Sky) making a sudden announcement he was ‘free from cancer’ and leaving Sky…. Hmmmm you think peole don’t lie?!??? So there were WMD now, because the media and politicians told you there were!??

Haha sake James, you think famous people are duty bound to tell the world their personal life clearly a decision was made by Adam to keep this news under wraps? Sky aren't exactly gonna expose it, as for sky sacking him, we don't know what's happened there, maybe he's surplus to requirements and the rumours are true that sky are sacking off boxing and he's jumped ship, maybe he's got a better deal elsewhere, who knows but faking cancer and WMDs, away you go back watching 9/11 documentaries on YouTube, I've never heard such shiteJamesPhilips wrote: ↑08 Nov 2023, 21:51Don’t you find it odd that not only did Sky never mention he had cancer, a guy who’d worked for them for 10 years, nor did Adam on his social media and then he was let go, again without Sky making any mention of his illness or why he was let go… a little bit suspicious?handsofstone wrote: ↑08 Nov 2023, 11:39You think the man is gonna make up having cancer ffs, he's got kids, you think someone like Adam Smith would do that? This is a quote from Sky’s PR team last year. People really love a conspiracy theory! Some people keep their private life private. Just because he didn’t blab it all to the press doesn’t mean it’s not true. It’s no one’s else’s business either. I wish him well.

Well half that quote has turned out incorrect because it very much looks like they aren't welcoming him back (my guess is the current promoter and line up has played its part which Smith was very much involved in)maverick23 wrote: ↑09 Nov 2023, 04:49
