Can anyone at 168 and under beat Charr?

Post by halfamill »

Charr is 39, close to a year of inactivity and is not a top 10 heavyweight. Who at 168 and under can pull a heavyweight world title victory against Charr?

I guess it's possible that Alvarez might. If the rules provide at a fighter 168 and under is allowed to gain weight, then I think David Benavidez, as skinny as he is, could show-up at like 195 on fight night if he got on a bulk.

Gotta disagree hard with the responses that said Naoya and Crawford.

Didn't Benavidez fight at heavyweight as an amateur? Or have I conflated him with some other Mexican SMW puncher from yonks ago?

Well, he only had 15 amateur fights, so I'm not sure whether you really had much exposure to his amateur career. But, from what I can tell, he was amateur when he was 15, and his weight ballooned to 250 when he was 15, and came back down to 168 when he was 16.

Crawford would come in at about 170 no weight cut, fresh, and absolutely kill Charr.

Crazy that Mayweather, Pacquiao, Cotto, and Mosley never captured heavyweight championships, then.

Charr never won a real heavyweight championship either.

That's 82 pounds in 12 months.

Yeah, sh*t's nuts. Like some Biggest Loser type sh*t. I don't know Benavidez personally, but wikipedia says:
"When he was 15, Benavidez's weight ballooned to 250 pounds, as he struggled with dieting and discipline."
"Benavidez made his pro debut at the age of 16"
Benavidez was 16 years 8 months old when he debuted, and he weighed 167.5.

Considering his age and a year to do it in, yeah it's more than possible I would think.

it would be an arduous task, but i can see it. espeeically if he was training full time, drained to make 167 and was actually more like 180, and started from the beginning of when he was 15, so essentially had 20 months to lose that weight instead of just 12
