Fury-Usyk. Who will you be rooting for?

Post by deadpan »

Evidently the goodwill for Tyson has rather declined of late. I was a big fan up to the Whyte fight, and was feeling conflicted about him facing Usyk as Oleksandr and his team ooze class and good humour. However I'll be cheering on the, er, 'ugly rabbit' all the way now. However much it risks me getting a shellacking in the pub (as it nearly did for Joshua 2).

Who are you supporting?

I'm the same. Admired and warmed to Fury after the Wilder fights, but now prefer Usyk's classier approach compared to Fury's brash gobshiteness.

Asking this question is an easy way to weed out the chaff from your social circle.

Despite all of the BS, if the fight does go ahead I’ll probably find myself rooting for the underdog Fury, as his whole legacy would be pretty much on the line.

Team Usyk here.

I too warmed to Fury after the first 2 Wilder fights. The back story was very endearing, and he came across as a great funny guy.
Unfortunately the more famous he became the more we learnt of the back story and the blatant lies and half truths surrounding him. Sadly he has only continued to add to the negative things prior to the Wilder contest, and become more sinister, unpleasant and loathsome.

Its clear by his shockingly bad recent PPV numbers that he isn`t as popular as some thought - it was on the back of his Netflix series and the Saudis pushing huge money in publicity and still it bombed spectacularly.

I hope Usyk wins by KO - however I am expecting an Usyk disqualification win - Fury will get himself disqualified if/when he feels Usyk is too good for him. He knows that will still allow him to get a rematch and further millions and a bit longer attention ... and ultimately money and attention is his primary goal.

Nah.
Tyson Fury needs to win this and then make many successful defences against good opposition to have any legacy to speak of.

I hope Fury shows up as the best version of himself. Usyk for me, Fury is turning people off with the idle threats and mocking, there's no need.

Fury was incredibly classy straight after the heavily disputed draw against Wilder. There could have been a ringside riot if he had reacted aggressively. Alas I think he'd behave very differently if it happened tomorrow. Maybe he was serene because John wasn't there to incoherently yell whilst ripping his t shirt off.

Despite Tyson falling out of favour with a lot of us, I still admire him for what he's achieved and a lot of his conduct. I don't think having John as your Dad would be the ideal upbringing.

Agreed, he was almost bashful by his standards.

In my opinion, his rather moot protest at the decision was purely because he thought he'd lose the fight going into it. Genuinely believe he thought, f*ck me, done alright here, a draw against this murderous puncher. Think he was just happy to avert from being a laughing stock.

By the time of fight 2, it dawned on Fury, along with everyone else that Wilder is a f'in garbage boxer, and with that got the old Tyson back.

Would you be surprised though?

The”he’s selling the fight” excuse doesn’t work coz the fight sells itself.

The bloke is an arse*le. End of.

Fury's patter is sh*te, its not witty or anything close to it, listening to him at the presser was mind numbing.

Is the knitting circle a few dozen strong now?
Gaining momentum.
We’ll be asking Tom Daly for a few tips on mitten patterns.

That prezza was bloomin’ cringe from Fury.

I agree. But boxing and reality don’t exactly go hand in hand these days.

If Fury loses to Usyk, all the talk of him being up there with the boxing greats of the past (however unfathomable that has always sounded, to me anyway) will surely evaporate.

In that sense, there is a lot on the line for the big fella, just enough for me to want to root for him -given that I think Usyk will box his ears off.
