If I recall, Jeff Lacy was Ottke's mandatory back in 2004. But then Ottke decided to call it a day and retired. Lacy fought Syd Vanderpool for the vacant IBF title.
Let's say, Ottke isn't retiring and fights then-unbeaten young prospect in Lacy. What happens?
I think, Ottke was an all-around better fighter. But he was probably getting up there in age at the time. Lacy was young and strong, even with that "limited" tag on him.
What would've happened, had they met in 2004?

In Germany? Ottke pts, otherwise Lacy.

In Germany Ottke by UD.
In US ...Ottke not fighting out of Germany

Lacy gets to him, wins inside the distance including in Germany.
That version of Ottke was well beat by the Robin Reid that Lacy bashed up.

Wasn’t that the fight where the referee was warning Reid and threatening to take points from him for hitting Ottke in the face? Not sure I’d ever seen that before

Yep, it was THAT fight. Btw, that ref passed away several years ago. Sad part is that, when it was reported, that fight was immediately brought up in comment section. It is what it is.
