Re: danny dubois best win?
Not exactly stellar, is it, for a 'World HW Champ', albeit a 'Regular' one
What would the Great Joe Louie think??.....anyways, probably Lerena as he got up off the floor to win. Beyond that, not all much, really.

Probably Lerena.
The Gorman fight was good at the time but Gorman hadn’t trained much for it (I think one of his kids was in hospital).
It’s a poor list to be honest. Crazy really that he managed to get mandatory with the WBA for Usyk.

Fujimoto. He was one of 4 heavies in Japan at the time and was the national champion in a country known for it's heavyweights

Re: danny dubois best win?
ya i guess id have to go lerena or gorman. gorman was bigger at the time but lerena i think was the best guy he beat, even with the weight factored in

He’d still iron AJ and Zhilei Zhang out tho.

Zhang would absolutely murder him, and I date say AJ would do the same, even this version.
Dubois has the boxing IQ of a washer-dryer.

I heard an old guy at a small hall show say, "I've seen more IQ on a life support machine."jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑06 Dec 2023, 16:13Zhang would absolutely murder him, and I date say AJ would do the same, even this version.

Gorman IMO which says to me Dubois should still be serving his apprenticeship.

Re: danny dubois best win?
I'd edge it for Bryan - although he came in pretty bad shape. I thought it was a decent win on paper (hardly great shakes, but at least Bryan had some Ws over named fighters).
Hardly worthy of a mandatory shot at the Unified champ.
Gorman could possibly beat Bryan - but he's beaten no one of note.

Re: danny dubois best win?
I think he’d have been better off with a different promoter. He was fed too many bums, bit like Yarde and now Itauma is. Standard practice with Warren.
Re: danny dubois best win?
That's why I think the proper European belt is good. You can get good purses and fight tough blokes from the continent whilst building up the experience. It seems now promoters try to feed people piss easy opposition in order to steal a wbo ranking with some intercontinental trinket, then they sit on the ranking until a shot comes up

I think you’re being a little hard on Itauma, it’s only his first year. There were some ok guys there on paper and 2 went the full distance. He’s only 18 as well.
Re: danny dubois best win?
That is been always 'Allegedly's' formula. Unless he really had a hot shot on his hands ie Naz, Khan, Calzaghe and Hatton, but even with those guys, his match making was a blatant pi** take quite often, tbh.wrighty wrote: ↑07 Dec 2023, 12:16That's why I think the proper European belt is good. True story - I remember sending Steve Holdsworth (true boxing guy and straight as a die) a text, when he was on Eurosport Live and said as much and he didn't read my quote out but did say, 'Yes, Naz from London. I couldn't agree more'. Cool moment, for me, anyways
Feck knows how many WBU, WBO title defences against....overmatched, poor, lighter, older fighters....and his attempts at hype, to this day, still make me cringe.
The again, he is a multi-millionaire so why should he listen to boxing fans? He didn't and never does.
So not surprised the way DD is going, which is shame, boxing wise, as the guy can fight and punch a bit but he'll never develop much.
Itauma will take a similar route but hopefully, he can pick up some skills and experience and then move on.
Re: danny dubois best win?
I think after Willie Lomond, they did do that with Khan, smaller, non punching fighters. He fought Kristjansen in a wbo eliminator whilst Thaxton fought Yuri Romanov on the same night for the European. Later, Khan, Murray and Thaxton were all mandatory for one another. FW tried the same formula. fornicate knows why they put him in with Breidis though. That was wild. Thing is though, Khan had some barn burners and was a game fella so I think it was more promoters. Calzaghe also had some strange defences like mkrtchian and Pudwill but I think the issue was that he couldn't get fights. He has quite a good record stillNazNaci1 wrote: ↑07 Dec 2023, 17:54That is been always 'Allegedly's' formula. I had the misfortune of watching get destroyed in his last fight by Cassius Chaney. He was absolutely woeful.stujones wrote: ↑07 Dec 2023, 09:48 I'd edge it for Bryan - although he came in pretty bad shape. Re: danny dubois best win?
the Gorman win has aged very badly in light of last fight and Fabio. It did look even at the time though, I remember enjoying the build up although neither are massive speakers.

Say what you want about Amir, he had balls and was fearless. His chin wasn't the best but he was as game as they come. Can't take that away from him.
Re: danny dubois best win?
Oh for sure. I think it was more management than him. He was game as you like. He took on Garcia and Canelo so that shows. He was never in crap fights. Even that Limond fight aged well as he went on to be British champ again and won a lot domestically. Khan was a honey badger. Definitely more Uncle Frank.NazNaci1 wrote: ↑08 Dec 2023, 19:35I take your point.wrighty wrote: ↑08 Dec 2023, 10:50I think after Willie Lomond, they did do that with Khan, smaller, non punching fighters. hahahaah what's a honey badger?
Re: danny dubois best win?
Glad you asked. They're a mammal over in Africa quite similar in looks to our badgers. They're known for being really aggressive and fearless but they're not that big, so a lot of the time when they try and have a tear up with a lion or something, it doesn't go well but they give a good account of themselves hahaha

Cheers Wrighty, thank you for explaining, that is an ace little animal, I ended up reading about them. I thought it was a saying as opposed to an actual mammal. Tough little dude.wrighty wrote: ↑09 Dec 2023, 08:29Glad you asked. They're a mammal over in Africa quite similar in looks to our badgers.
