Joe Joyce: What’s next?
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
I'm going to take more convincing that Joyce's punch resistance has gone.....I believe anyone who uses their body as a battering ram against Zhang will go the same way. If Joyce can't succeed then no one can.
They just need to drop the opposition to test the water. I'm pretty sure normal service will resume if Joe doesn't have a world class immovable object in front of him who can bang & box.

Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
What's the point ? He's old, punch resistance seemingly gone and shown to be not top tier. I doubt he would sell many tickets or would price himself out of anything decent like WardleyTHEBUTCH wrote: ↑05 Dec 2023, 10:47 I'm going to take more convincing that Joyce's punch resistance has gone.....I believe anyone who uses their body as a battering ram against Zhang will go the same way. Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
He's still a top ten contender. Guys he has already bludgeoned to emphatic defeat are still getting big fights.
By the way, who else is queuing up to get in the ring with Zhang ?

Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
get him in with someone like joe cusmano, who has a career best win over kownacki last time out, but if JJ has anything left should be a beat down job to get some confidence and momentum back,
then a fight vs a more lively body - win move on, lose retire. could be someone like mike hunter.
could a cross roads fight vs yoka still work if yoks beats ryad merhy next? or is that just not hot enough now

Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
When this big Saudi card was announced, I was thinking about Joyce.
I kind of feel sorry for him, because he is a warrior who won't just sit on his number 1 ranking and wait for a title shot; he kept taking risks and unfortunately met his match with Zhang.
I honestly don't know what I think he should do, but one thing I do know is that he shouldn't become a gatekeeper.
If he can't hang with the big boys anymore, he needs to jack it in.
No sense in potentially ending up like Danny Williams, being a punchbag with arms in some backwater for chump change.

I'd love the Yoka revenge

I was surprised F W couldn't find a fight for him on the Saudi bill , unless he didn't want it of courseSyntax Error wrote: ↑06 Dec 2023, 01:38 When this big Saudi card was announced, I was thinking about Joyce.

He just had two bad losses and the recent one was very recent wasn't it. Trouble is at 38 he can't hang around, maybe he is injured but he needs to get back soon if notRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑06 Dec 2023, 07:35He just had two bad losses and the recent one was very recent wasn't it. Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
If he is indeed going to fight on, he may as well go for one last big payday.
He's been found out now, we've seen it before with fighters who seemed invincible, once they get stopped, it's never the same again. He got absolutely battered last time out, and I'd not be surprised if his punch resistance has gone. At 38, he's going to get some right old pastings if he tries to fight his way back to contention for a title shot. Even if he wins fights, hes shipping more punishment.
The problem is his marquee value has been badly damaged, so what big fights are there.
If I were his team, I'd urge him to call it a day.

tbf it is only one opponent who has beat him. Zhang might just have his number.
I hope he fights on

Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
If Dubois can beat Miller, then I guess a Joyce rematch is still a big fight.
Only thing is, I would be concerned that Zhang might well have destroyed Joes resistance which would be bad news.

Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
I feel like Domestic rivalries are all that's out there for him at this point. Dubois or possibly Chisora if he's still gonna fight. Maybe there's a few other lesser British Heavyweights or some other European softie they could bring over just to get him a Win, but as far as money fights I can't imagine he has many options left.
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
Retire. It was a harrowing knockout. He looked like he physically deflated when that shot landed.

If he is going to carry on, he needs to get back out there ASAP.
It must be galling for him seeing the likes of Dubois getting big fights all the time, or even Joseph Parker getting a fight with Wilder after both were outclassed by Joyce.
Those wins give Joyce some currency, but the longer he stays out, the less relevant they become.

He just needs to roll someone over like Kevin Lerena and get back on the map.

Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
Should get a tune up win so he isn’t coming off 2 ko losses then fight yoka for the gold medal rematch. If he wins then last crack at world levle (but strategical matched).
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
A domestic belt and a scrap with Yoka
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
He should retire. He achieved more than most boxers ever do. More likely he'll have a few gimmies and then get destroyed again.
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
Commonwealth, European, British and interim world champion is a great haul to be fair. Coupled with his Olympic silver and commonwealth gold. He's had a great career
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
I like Joe Joyce, but this face first style worries me.
He had the time to improve his defence, but at 38 I just don't see it (or anything else) improving.
The idea of going for the British and defending it would be a nice end to his career if he chooses to fight on. That is achievable, and as Rino says, a good way to go out.
Recent studies on CTE show the risks go up exponentially from late 30's onwards and I would hate for a nice guy like Joe to succumb to that, but the amount of punches he takes really worries me.![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

definitely. Never really fought a journeymen ever either, I remember his first fight a 10 rounder vs a former Brit title challenger, Joe retired the poor sod too.

Totally agree, he's not going to turn into Pernell Whittaker at this stage of his career, time to call it a day before he ends up with severe brain trauma.KiwiRider wrote: ↑08 Dec 2023, 14:31 I like Joe Joyce, but this face first style worries me.

He took a real pounding in his last fight, and he's eaten punches in bunches throughout his career.
He's a smart lad with other interests to pursue.
Re: Joe Joyce: What’s next?
Easy for us to say , but whats he gonna do , has he got a trade or a direction to go in jobwise ,, suppse its down to has he enough money did he earn enough , bearing in mind his take after managers , trainers , sparring partners tax ect ect ,, if he's short of retirement money well a couple big domestic fights if he can get them , Him , Hughie Fury would be ok , like i said its easy for others to say , , but fancy doing a job till your 38 then sacked , never done anythng else and still needing to earn
