I really liked Erdei. He was actually a quality fighter, who missed on some good fights at LHW because of his ties to a German promoter. Otherwise, he had a good amateur pedigree. Nice skills. Good handspeed.

But I think Calzaghe was just a better fighter. If he goes against a prime Erdei, I'd take him to win a clear but hard-fought decision, something like 8-4, 9-3. I don't foresee Calzaghe just rolling over Erdei. Zsolt didn't fold against Fragomeni (who was about 10 kg heavier than him on fight night).

Erdei got two gift decisions against Hugo Garay. Calzaghe wins by wide UD or TKO in the later rounds.

Been saying that for years. Garay gets the decisions in both fights if they were outside of Germany, IMO. Garay also won by a much wider margin vs Braehmer in a title fight in Germany four years later and one of the judges did everything he could to give it to Braehmer. I don't think Erdei was a bad fighter - he had some nice boxing skills - but he was super carefully managed against usually soft title opposition and Joe was in a different league. Joe C 9-3 at worst anywhere but in Germany
