Yeah. I was expecting Bellew to come across worse than he has. In boxing he’s always been quite angry but he’s managed to stay fairly relaxed and has come across likeable.Steveh583 wrote: ↑08 Dec 2023, 12:27bellew asked about brexit, farage defended his position and why he did what he did. bellew pointed out the knock on effects financially to the man on the street (food prices etc). His exchange with Farage was refreshing and the opposite to how a lot of people think nowadays. Nella, earlier in the series, had a conversation where she just shouted and jumped to conclusions.
People can and do have different opinions on things. The world would be a boring place without that but it seems more of a modern thing where people take offence to anyone who thinks differently to them and can’t have a reasoned conversation about it.
Re: Tony Bellew
I think in hindsight, fans that criticised him don’t grasp the fear, stress and anxiety that comes with being punched in the face for a living by finely tuned world class athletes. There was an interesting clip where he discussed how many times he’s been punched and how he knows it will come back to haunt him later in life. Maybe he HAD to be that person to do what he did.maverick23 wrote: ↑10 Dec 2023, 07:32Yeah. I was expecting Bellew to come across worse than he has. ‘Bomber1’ finished second and came across very very well. Totally the opposite to the person that fought so desperately to get the fights to change his life..
Everything he did at the start of his career has led to his crossover success today. Well done!
He appears to be a man at peace now.

Yeh, he was acting that way to get the fights and the biggest pay day.. He wanted to be financially secure.SAPFO wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 05:51 ‘Bomber1’ finished second and came across very very well. Totally the opposite to the person that fought so desperately to get the fights to change his life..

He is at peace.. Maybe NOW he can go into hiding.
Re: Tony Bellew
I wonder what his motivation was?
Surely he has already earned retirement money which is topped up by commentating?
Maybe he was just grabbing the free money?
Or is he looking to become a celebrity?

Re: Tony Bellew
Farage was on a reported 1.25 Million for 3 weeks "work". Even if Bellew was on 25% of that, that is still serious money for 3 weeks work and let be truthful it is not as bad as they make out - e.g. they are not going to get serious injury / illness. Plus there is always some hottie for the shower scenes, so the views won't be bad for 3 weeks!

As a money grab it's well worth it. I really doubt he was on 25% though.stujones wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 08:20Farage was on a reported 1.25 Million for 3 weeks "work". I've read previously that the z-list reality stars do it for 10k, it's probably worth doing for free for the exposure.
With what they paid for Farage, I bet they were cutting costs in other areas.
Wouldn't surprise me if he got like 25k

Re: Tony Bellew
If he got £30k or £100k, it’s still a load of money for a commitment of less than a month where the worst thing that’ll happen is he misses his family.
Those who do well in it are also set up more coming out of it where they can get paid/paid more for endorsements on social or in other things they want to do.
I thought he came across real well. A tough bloke but someone who also encouraged the others and had a much softer side. One of my mates called him a celebrity once and he hated it, corrected him and said he’s just a boxer. He doesn’t seem to have changed.

The show is called I`m a Celebrity.
Something tells me Bellew considers himself a celebrity more than a boxer nowadays ..

Good on him if that’s accurate. It’s nice to see boxers/ex boxers making money without getting punched.Frostieballs wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 13:45I think you are looking at more like £200k.maverick23 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 12:37If he got £30k or £100k, it’s still a load of money for a commitment of less than a month where the worst thing that’ll happen is he misses his family.

Re: Tony Bellew
I'd think more than that. I think it ranges from about £50k to £1m depending on their fame (and their agent). You'd think he could get £300k-£400k.Frostieballs wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 13:45I think you are looking at more like £200k.maverick23 wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 12:37If he got £30k or £100k, it’s still a load of money for a commitment of less than a month where the worst thing that’ll happen is he misses his family.

Apparently started at 40k this year
Didn't mention our Tony as he was a late entrant

I think Mr Bellow has played a blinder his whole carreer , he gave the public what they want at all the right times has a boxer , carved out a nice little carreer on tv after boxing , both has a presenter and a celebrity , still earning good money , and gets home safe to his kids , Well done TONY BELLOW .

I`m unsure if he just had good luck at the end of his career - or a good agent. But he certainly seemed to turn his career around with some very good decisions late on

Him and Haye played the game to perfection for those 2 scraps.

Bellew benefited from being with Sky/Matchroom at the perfect time. He was also smart with his choices.tonyevs wrote: ↑12 Dec 2023, 03:13Yepconeye wrote: ↑11 Dec 2023, 19:51 I think Mr Bellow has played a blinder his whole carreer , he gave the public what they want at all the right times has a boxer , carved out a nice little carreer on tv after boxing , both has a presenter and a celebrity , still earning good money , and gets home safe to his kids , Well done TONY BELLOW .![]()

Wins the world title against Makabu, has a relatively soft defence against Flores and calls out Haye straight away. He knew a fight with Haye would set him up for life and whilst he knew Haye wasn’t who he once was he was lucky that Haye injured himself during the first fight giving him the rematch and the Usyk fight.
Re: Tony Bellew
Overall, he’s turned into a good egg ain’t he? I do like his honesty regarding Haye. He knows that prime Haye would have flattened him and admits it.
Don’t forget, he has been in a Sylvester Stallone movie as well.

not that we'll ever know, but i think he would have beaten haye regardless of the injury. haye looked awful in those ridiculous comeback fights, his timing was gone.maverick23 wrote: ↑12 Dec 2023, 03:51Bellew benefited from being with Sky/Matchroom at the perfect time. I had Haye winning the fight until his injury. Bellew wasn’t doing badly though and may have come on down the stretch. Bellews was on the SAS program last year too.
