Hinds was the best ref in the BBBoC. No doubt for me. So it does raise questions that he wasn't elevated. In my view, the board is a joke and old mans club to give nice cushy salaries to the old boys in favour.

IJL was horrible and should have been fired many years ago.

I considered Jeff to be one of, if not the best British refs, and often wondered why he was not upgraded. The BBBofC claim it was down to performance, not to mention the very rude comment from Simon Block that he was lucky to remain B class.

What an insult! He was easily good enough, especially when compared to some of his A class colleagues.

Definitely worthy of being an A class ref.

i didnt think hinds was that great, but certainly no worse than your typical a star ref. and much beetter than ijl and tel. i can understand him being upset

ijl screaming wacism, on the other hand, is just beyond laughable. for him to even got the opportunities he did, for as long as he did, shows he was treeated far too favourably in fact

I agree with both the 2 most recent posts. Hope he gets reinstated, doesn't seem fair.

I didn't think much of Hinds as a referee.

I never seen the chap put a foot wrong. He had a good presence and gave the fighters a chance but wasn't scared of stepping in, usually at the right time. I'd feel safe with him reffing my fights but I'd be looking over my shoulder at the others. McDonnell in particular was the only chap who felt Cambpell Hatton deserved that win over Sonny Martinez as the sole scorer. I think you have to be willing to be that corrupt (entitled to my opinion), take clear wins away from fighters. I don't think Hinds was ever on board with that but I can give plenty of examples of most of the others.

I don't question Hinds' integrity or judging, I just don't think he is a competent referee IMO.

One thing I will put on the record in his favour was a fight (can't remember boxers involved) where Hinds noticed one of the participants behaving strangely and I think he intervened....i believe that boxer later had some sort of brain issue.

So clearly that is a big plus point and wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention it.

Hinds was never a great ref, but he was fine, he had found his level.

However other refs got promoted to A Star refs who should never have been reffing.

The race thing is nonsense, Billy Aird got canned and he isn't black, Ken Curtis was long serving too

is it nonsense? The directors are a bunch of old white men. I can imagine their lens is myopic.

I'm not courting arguments just interested mate. How do we know it is nonsense. Hinds references words to him that he felt were racist. How can we easily dismiss this?

well if we include hiis combined reffing + judging fights, one that comes to mind is ian lewison-pavels doglovs, where lewison dropped the guy 3 times in the second round, seemingly got the better of the fght in general, yet hinds somehow had it a 37-37 draw. very odd scoring

tbf though, all refs will have off nights and hinds clearly isnt any worse than the typical a-star ref. quality shouldnt have been what held him back

If they were racist, why did they promote IJL, on a fast track leaving him rise to the top of the refereeing tree, and resisted call for years to demote him?

I am not aware of this, just commenting from my limited lens mate, genuinely interested, my main angle is built upon the fact Smith comes across as a bellend. Hardly scientific.

I've got a ton of respect for Robert Smith and think he does a good job in a very different boxing world from many years ago.

Smith has a tendency to comes across as defensive in interviews, but I can't really blame him TBH.

I get it. The O'Connor defending is a little bit irksome though.

They might have stretched things with Terry O'Connor as he has turned in some howlers.

Then again, just after the Thompson v Haye fight I actually made of a point of saying to O'Connor that he handled the bout well.

And...while I didn't agree with O'connor's actual scorecard, I did think Tyson Fury beat John McDermott in their first fight !

I did too and he definitely amended any doubt in the return so fair play.
