Donaire and Moreno almost came to a deal for a unification bout (WBC/WBA/WBO) at 118lbs, that should've happened in May 2011. But their teams didn't come to an agreement at the last minute, I think.
I remember myself looking forward to this fight back then.
How do you think this fight would've gone?

Donaire by UD or late stoppage. It was be a similar on Donaire vs Narvaez
Re: Nonito Donaire vs Anselmo Moreno (2011)
The difference in Donaire v Moreno and Donaire v Narvaez is Moreno was a natural BW and similar size to Donaire and Narvaez was a small flyweight fighting a much bigger bantamweight. Narvaez took that fight for money knowing he wasn't big enough to give Donaire a fight. Moreno would be a pain in the ass for Donaire but Donaire would win by UD

I agree with you. I think, Moreno was also just a better fighter than Narvaez. But his lack of power will show here. Donaire is likely to outgun Moreno, but Moreno will make him look flat at times.giacomino wrote: ↑18 Dec 2023, 17:27 The difference in Donaire v Moreno and Donaire v Narvaez is Moreno was a natural BW and similar size to Donaire and Narvaez was a small flyweight fighting a much bigger bantamweight. Nonito, back then was quite formidable and had a lot of speed and one punch power, with the left hook.
Pretty sure he wins and would fancy it would be by KO, could be early, could be late.

I dunno, not sure Moreno was a better fighter. Narváez was a really good flyweight and pretty good jr. BW, although undersized. He was past his best when he fought Donaire and was in his late 30s when he got KO’d by Monster, and those are the only fights people remember him by, unfortunately.EdwardRevolver1993 wrote: ↑18 Dec 2023, 17:58I agree with you. He and Pong would have been a great matchup in the 2000s when both were near prime

i think they were similar level, moreno got better fights to prove himself though. narvaez either was in too soft or way stacked against him. he was very talented and capable of beating better fighters than he did.

I don't disagree with you that Narvaez was a good boxer. I just think that Moreno was more versatile. By the way, gentlemen, if you fancy a good read and if you like "Best I Faced" feature on Ring, there are good pieces on both Moreno and Narvaez. They're both quite recent. Personally, I love those series.giacomino wrote: ↑18 Dec 2023, 19:22I dunno, not sure Moreno was a better fighter. Narváez was a really good flyweight and pretty good jr. BW, although undersized.
