As most soccer fans will tell you, local history and tradition don't mean much against the powers of money and commercialism, and both Saudi and DAZN seem to have plenty of that.

Anyway, Riyadh has already taken over as world boxing's capital as their 'Day of Reckoning' card for the 23rd December clearly demonstrates.

Whatever the real economics or politics behind this extravagant financial investment are, we should definitely get to see a fabulous evening of boxing.

Plus the fact that there's only a 3 hour time difference with the UK is the icing on the cake.

Is anyone else sad that it's coming to this? Top boxers are fighting in nowhere Saudi Arabia while YouTubers are still fighting in front of big crowds in America? I'm sure these guys are getting paid, but I'm for growing boxing. I don't see how fighting in Saudi Arabia is good for this sport. I mean my enthusiasm is at an all time low, and I used to watch odd Polish, Japanese, and Russian cards a few years ago because I loved the sport so much.

As a boxing fan in the UK. I’m not gonna complain.

1. We get the fights we want.
2. We don’t have to wake up at daft o’ clock to watch it.

Can we blame the fighters ? Footballers, golfers, tennisers… etc etc ?

We can blame the ones who are already insanely wealthy IMO. Ronaldo, a bunch of footballers, Fury etc who have more money than they will ever spend but are happy to take part in what is going on.
Guys like Opetaia who aren't worth that kind of money can't be blamed. It is a lifechanging pay day for them.

Yeah, Vegas boxing crowds are notoriously unimpressed by everything. They start booing the minute there's a lull in the action.

- Boxing with Madison Square Garden went through their decrepit Phase near the end of Frazier's title where his Big George defense was in Jamaica of all places.

Then Big George on to Japan, then Venezuela, then Zaire, and then Indonesia had not Ali ducked the rematch where a black Oilman offered a split purse of 10mil as Ali detailed in his Playboy interview. Ali ended up bringing his new title back to Podunk, Ohio where he defended vs Wepner in a stinker for peanuts.

New York City and MSG never fully recovered, and Vegas what with all the Indian Reservation Casinos that have opened up in the US is slowly getting bled to death coming out of Corona Panic of 2020.

Good publicity for Saudis if they can continue to tamp down the terrorism creep festering the middle east yet again.

Yes there are a number of other places that hold them from time to time too, but Las Vegas has almost always been the epicenter of boxing when it came to the real big events.

This is the most heavyweight talent in 20 years on a card. Think about that. That promoter if he is as good as he should be can make all the winners meet. Wow. Money money, money. The promoter can tell the fighters to reach in to his pocket or in this case maybe his turban.

Takes time.
Look at what the U.S has done for boxing over the last 50 years.
You can't even get close to that achievement.
They played a huge role in building the infrastructure just for starters.
