Adonis Stevenson vs James Toney

Toney didn't really achieve anything at light-heavyweight (in terms of winning a legitimate championship there). But let's imagine he faces Adonis Stevenson for Stevenson's lineal light-heavyweight championship in a cross-generaration match-up.

How this fight goes?

Adonis Stevenson being a Southpaw, and a power hitter, and a solid boxer puncher would give Toney problems, and possibly beat him by decision.

I think we'd be looking at a fight with tight scorecards regardless of who comes out on top here.

Toney fought well at Light Heavyweight in spite of the official results he was saddled with. Watch the 2 Montell Griffin fights, and tell me Toney didn't win them. Especially the 2nd one.

Both of these guys present a stylistic problem for the other. I'm thinking Adonis' greater power could be the difference. Toney has greater skill, and defense, but he maybe would need to land 2 punches to 1 to have the same impact in the eyes of the judges as Stevenson's heavier shots.

Hard one to call. I'd pick Stevenson I guess.

I think Toney beats him. He was the better all-round fighter. Stevenson‘s strength at that level was banging folks out. That wouldn’t work against Toney.

I haven't seen Toney-Griffin fights in quite some time. But my memory was that it was 1-1. Montell had a case for a win in one of them. I'll try to rewatch and re-score it.

Yes, I'm more with you on this one. I think, Toney's counter right hands would be giving Stevenson a lot of headache. Toney would be finding home for them against a southpaw.

However, Toney is always more or less in front of you. Stevenson will have the chance to buzz Toney at least once with one of his fast left straights.
