in threads after wilder-helenius several posters said they thought wilder was a future hall of famer. i wonder if anyone has changed their mind

for all the title defenses, i cant get over the lack of quality

ppl mention barry mcguigan all the time, but his best win was miles better than wilders. he beat a genuine long reigning atg

Wilder is a strange case.
Doesn't have a resume, looks like shit when boxing but has power that can potentially sleep anyone in the division.

In one fight he can get his ass dominated by Parker and in the next fight he could knockout Usyk.

Fury>Wilder
Whyte > Parker> Wilder

If Wilder or Fury is better then prove it
What?
The beers are talking. I don't even know what I meant.

Fury > Whyte> Parker > Wilder
Whyte isn’t better than Parker though.

Same.
Parker did what others have failed to do, don't let Wilder set up, and be careful when you hurt him because he becomes twice as dangerous.
I'm sure both Tyson and Andy Lee drilled that second bit into him

In theory absolutely. Being a big puncher in heavyweight can change anything though.

Wilder getting overtaken by Lerena is something I never expected to see.
He should fight at Bridger- and Crusierweight to become the oldest boxer to be a three weight champ :D

true but wilder doesnt really have the results either that would make me believe he'd beat usyk, especially at this stage, even wiwth his power. there is no high level boxer with good movement and timing in his win column. the best is ortiz, but he's a flat footed guy

You've been watching boxing long enough to witness other hall of famers who've been upset, right? Remember when Lennox lost to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman? Tyson - Douglas? Holyfield - Moorer? Hopkins - Taylor? I could probably name like 300 examples.

Wilder has made $100 million off of boxing, been involved in 13 title fights, and headlined numerous pay-per-views (I think). If he retired today, I think he'd have a solid chance of making the HoF. But if he continued fighting and beat 3 or 4 more contenders, or eventually managed to fight Joshua and do 800k ppv buys, I think his chances just go up from there.

I agree. At least after today you can't argue against that.
He needed that win for his record. After that loss he doesn't really have anything going for him.

its almost like lennox lewis, evander holyfield, mike tyson, and bernard hopkins all have way deeper resumes than wilder

all those fights and bermane stiverne and dom breazeale are among the best 3 guys he's beat

when someone is upset by an opponent far worse than other guys they've beat, it's easier to look past. just curious if people are still so convinced by wilder's quantity over quality approach

Wilder finally moves further down.

can he re-enter the rankings?

He only exited due to inactivity..

Parker defo above Joyce now.

None of this ‘ he lost to Joyce so can’t be above him’

Remember you’re only as good as your last fight..
Parker on a nice little run of form. 4 fights this year, opponents rate 101-7
Most active of all the top 15 by some margin. The slackers

Hall of Fames are overrated.

It's the Hall of FAME not Hall of GREATNESS.
If we are talking "best of the best" someone like McGuigan should never be mentioned.
Don't give it too much thought.

In comparison…

This is TBRB’s top 10 before the weekend..

C Oleksandr Usyk
1 Tyson Fury
2 Zhilei Zhang
3 Anthony Joshua
4 Otto Wallin
5 Filip Hrgovic
6 Jared Anderson
7 Martin Bakole
8 Frank Sanchez
9 Arslanbek Makhmudov
10 Joe Joyce
—————————

No doubt we see a major shake up here.

Parker wil re-enter.

Dubois ‘may’ enter.

Mak will exit, Kabayel will most likely enter.

Sanchez can remain.

Wilder probably won’t re-enter at a lower ranking. He was only exited due to inactivity.

AJ probably moves up above Zhang, maybe even Fury.. whilst Wallin will drop.

3. Tyson Fury

4. Zhilei Zhang

5. Joseph Parker

6. Filip Hrgovic

7. Martin Bakole

8. Joe Joyce

9. Daniel Dubois

10. Agit Kabayel

That's how I've got it this morning, anyway.

3. 🇬🇧 Anthony Joshua - 26(23) 3(1) 0 - next fight: 23.12.2023 vs. 🇸🇪 Otto Wallin - 26(14) 1(0) 0 - (#7)

4. 🇨🇳 Zhilei Zhang - 24(21) 1(0) 1 - next fight: TBA

5. 🇭🇷 Filip Hrgovic - 16(13) 0 0 - next fight: 23.12.2023 vs. 🇦🇺 Mark De Mori - 41(36) 2(2) 2 - (Boxrec's #290)

8. 🇨🇩 Martin Bakole - 20(15) 1(1) 0 - next fight: TBA

15. 🇨🇲 Francis Ngannou - 0 1(0) 0 - next fight: TBA

12-24-23..

Wallin out
Makmudov out
Move Sanchez up, and Parker up a little.

If age is a factor over 35, and I say it is, wake up and mover Zhang way down. And Fury based in his last perforce does not belong at #2. More like #6 - 10.

Why is Joyce rated so highly here?

He knocked Parker out last year. That win aged well.

Hrgovic beat Zhang in 2022.
Zhang beat Joyce twice this year.
Joyce beat Parker in 2022.

Because of those recent fights Parker should stay behind Zhang, Hrgovic and Joyce.

That’s probably my new Top 10 after last night:
1. Usyk
2. Joshua
3. Fury
4. Hrgovic
5. Zhang
6. Joyce
7. Parker
8. Kabayel
9. Dubois
10. Sanchez
