PPV's going forward
Have to say that Saturday was the best value PPV in a long time and 20 quid too. But how will that now affect SKY/Boxxer and TNT trying to sell average fights as a PPV with a hopeless undercard with women's fights and nobodies on it.
Can't really charge 25 quid or more and not expect a backlash now. Might make some fights a hard sell if they don't put on a proper undercard with at least 4 decent matches on the show

Yup they are fcuked really, in the past they would have tried to flog one of those final 3 fights as a stand alone headliner with a pish undercard, noone will stump up for that anymore, customers get used to a certain standard.tony1234 wrote: ↑25 Dec 2023, 07:05 Have to say that Saturday was the best value PPV in a long time and 20 quid too. They won't give a toss, they'll keep flogging crap PPVs until they are completely loss-making.
Re: PPV's going forward
I didnt buy Saturday's PPV as there wasnt a standout headline fight featuring an A level boxer. Yes, overall, there were a few decent fights but not worth the extra for me. I will buy Fury v Usyk no matter what the undercard is and the last PPV I bought was Usyk v Dubois.
So I'd challenge the fact that the Day of Reckoning did set a new standard. It lacked a marquee fight to do that, despite all the hype. I honestly think FW and EH had the Saudis' pants down with that show and keeping AJ and Wilder apart.

I just don't think people will buy them unless they are stacked anymore, the Saudis have really upped the standard.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑25 Dec 2023, 07:31 They won't give a toss, they'll keep flogging crap PPVs until they are completely loss-making.

It`ll be interesting to see the UK PPV buys ... I think we may be surprised they aren`t as high as we would expect from such a reasonably priced stacked card.

Fury v Usyk and no matter the undercard ? That sounds thrilling

Saturday was the first time I've paid for a ppv in years. if the card is that stacked, I'll pay up £20 just to avoid the fuss of the alternative
Re: PPV's going forward
They don’t half shoot themselves in the foot though.
Having Dubois - Miller on at 7pm was just silly.
That was the fight me & a couple of my mates were most excited about & none of us got to see it.
But then we have to sit through never ending studio chat & Bivol v Arthur at prime time.
The annoying thing is on several ring cards I saw Dubois - Miller was scheduled after the Bivol fight.
One super fight & two good support fights is all a PPV needs. Barely anyone’s got the time to be sitting through 7 hours of action (or half of it been studio chat).
It’s the Saturday before Christmas, people are busy, there’s a huge top of the table premier league clash on at the same time & anyone with young kids is sorting them out at 7pm sort of time.
It’s hardly like it was a surprise Dubois - Miller was fight of the night either. Virtually everyone tipped it to be the best fight of the night.
If the Saudi’s are going to keep putting big cards on then I’d say keep putting ones on with 3 good fights like Joshua - Wallin, Wilder - Parker & Dubois - Miller but avoid the mismatches.
Having Opetaia blasting out & Bivol dominating British level opponents brings nothing to the cards. Hopefully it was just a short notice issue & wont be a problem going forward.
For me, the best thing about these types of cards is that it’ll get fighters like Kabayel, Makmudhov, Dubois, Miller, Joyce, Zhang, Hunter, Wallin, Parker etc in big competitive fights when in most cases they don’t sell enough tickets & generate enough revenue to have big fights in their homelands.
It’ll hopefully stop fighters just trying to take the easiest route to a mandatory world title shot rather than having competitive fights to earn a shot like we used to see when fighters were waiting on shots at Klitschko & then Joshua & Wilder.

I don’t subscribe to dazn out of principle,
They’ve just upped their price so imo they shouldn’t be having ppv, so I’m a bit disappointed that so many have bought the Hearn hype and are calling this good value.

I’d happily pay £20 for just a normal old fashioned Friday Fight Night kind of a card if there were no rubbish girl fights or rubbish girl pundits shoehorned into the show just to tick the woke box.
What a fun evening of boxing that was, well done to all involved

Re: PPV's going forward
dazn is brilliant value for money if you buy it for the year. edwards v bam alone in december justified the fee and in boxing terms wasnt really interested in the heavyweights in saudi, none of those fights really settled anything

Re: PPV's going forward
FWIW I loved that card and generally love DAZN with all the mad little extra cards and the library/archives. DAZN charging you for a PPV after their whole original selling point being the NO-PPVS thing stings a bit.
I was unsure about the Saudi thing when it started but fornicate it man, we’re all getting better fights nowadays. I was a bit funny about the human rights record and their bad treatment of gay people but if we get Opetaia vs Bivol early next year my morals are gonna fukken crumble

Re: PPV's going forward
WELL…
It’s not as simple as is being hinted at here.
The Saudis are losing millions to put events on, the real world cannot do that.
Eventually every sporting event will be PPV, from 99p to watch a lower tier football match to $100 for the Super Bowl or whatever.

Re: PPV's going forward
Absolutely right. The Saudis wanted Joshua Wilder right away and were convinced to go down the path that has ruined world level boxing…the so called “tests” and “marination”veriton wrote: ↑25 Dec 2023, 07:35 I didnt buy Saturday's PPV as there wasnt a standout headline fight featuring an A level boxer. That tend to result in the fights we want to see never happening or at least losing their relevance.
Hopefully Bob and Frank die soon.

I also subscribe to DAZN, signed up when it was £2 and it's only a tenner now, really enjoy it as there is random boxing on too which I'd never know about, there were 3 cards on at same time few weeks ago.
