No. The unintended result would be that people that don't know the sport and its' history (but think they do) would diminish the great heavyweights of the past. You would hear idiotic comments like "Muhammad Ali was only a heavyweight". He couldn't compete with the "Super heavyweights of today".

We certainly do. How often do we hear people refer to a weight "advantage" as if that is somehow automatically a given advantage.

However imagine if there was a Super heavyweight division. It would be much worse. Lets say the heavyweight "limit" is 240 pounds. You would be hearing people routinely dismissing Ali, Frazier, Holmes, Holyfield etc. as "just heavyweights."

To be honest, I would not be surprised to see it actually happen. It would be one more weight class which means one for bogus title for the WBS organizations to promote.

Greg Page began his professional boxing career back in February, 1979. From February, 1979 till October, 1983, Greg did very well in the ring. But, Page's career from March, 1984 till August, 1993, wasn't that good.

The early part of Greg's career, he displayed A LOT of talent, primarily very good punching power in both his fists. He also displayed pretty good movement's for a guy his size.

From March, 1984 till August, 1993, it seemed that Page's mentality and mindset weren't fully into boxing.


Had Greg been more mentally focused on boxing and physically committed to the sport as in his training? Had Page not been lazy, and not lacking a work ethic? --------

1. Do you think that Greg could have been somewhat near among the top greats of the heavyweight division?

I think if Greg was focused and motivated, he would have been one of the greatest of all-time. He had the gifts. But with him, he wasn't in love with boxing, his father kind of imposed it on him. His first love was basketball, and I feel that, once his old man passed, subconsciously he let go whatever seriousness he had about his career. Notice his weight gain the rest of the 1981 year. Plus, he should have gotten out of Louisville to train and live, same problems a lot of prospects back then. Also shouldn't have gone to Don King, didn't have too.

Page never really wanted to box and his heart wasn't in the sport. He only seemed to really try once he was past it and needed the money, but it was too late.

Those late 70s/early 80s fights though when he has his youth and snap and reflexes are very impressive, a glimpse of what could have been. He somehow put it all together in Sun City but that was the end of him.

After 1985, you couldn't really take Greg seriously anymore. But he would show the occasional glimpse.
