Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker | PPV - 23 December 2023
Re: Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker | PPV - 23 December 2023
Nice to get a surprise like this (as was the case with Zhang and Joyce). I actually thought Helenius had the tools to do something against Wilder, but obviously not able to put it together. Good when the contenders fight one an other and something unexpected actually happens. The current bunch have almost all been at risk of reaching a plateau, getting to a certain stage and deciding what their worth is before stagnating. Whyte did it heading into Fury, Fury did it after his post Wilder title defences, Wilder and Ruiz seemed to have done it. A lot of the top heavyweights are stalling themselves and the division, and someone hungry and capable, with something to prove on the rebound, can cause a shock. Well done Parker. Obvious message to heavyweights: keep fighting each other.

Good work by Parker. Didn't expect that as many.

who do we see either fighting next, presuming Wilder carries on.
I'd love to see Parker v Ruiz again.

Nah, give us new matchups. Parker vs Bakole or Sanchez, or Anderson.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023, 14:31 who do we see either fighting next, presuming Wilder carries on.

I don't wanna see any of the current Heavyweight fight "again" I want to see 'em all fight people they've never fought before.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑26 Dec 2023, 14:31 who do we see either fighting next, presuming Wilder carries on.

I still want Wilder vs Joshua.
I'd be fine with Parker vs Zhang or something like that.
Ruiz is gonna be pretty rusty next time he steps in there, and doesn't seem particularly motivated to do so.

They did ask Ruiz about Parker but he said he needed 6 months - This is why he isn't getting fights and why he should be left to get even fatter.

Ah, did not know that. 26 weeks prep implies he's in very poor shape.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 05:00 They did ask Ruiz about Parker but he said he needed 6 months - This is why he isn't getting fights and why he should be left to get even fatter.

Nobody is giving anyone more than 16 weeks, and that would only be if they were the big selling headline act.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 13:46Ah, did not know that. 26 weeks prep implies he's in very poor shape.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 05:00 They did ask Ruiz about Parker but he said he needed 6 months - This is why he isn't getting fights and why he should be left to get even fatter.

Re: Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker | PPV - 23 December 2023
He made his money from the Joshua fights. I suspect he'll only ever have half ass focus for the rest of his career at best. Being ultra motivated is kinda a personality type, Even when a lazy guy gets motivated for a big event or circumstance. It'd be near impossible for him to maintain that type of motivation because it's just not who he is.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 14:22 so ruiz went from a whole weight loss /getting in shape/new dedication to boxing pr campaign for ortiz, to needing 6 months for one fight? jeeeeez andy, get focused man

it seems so. I hope he doesn't squander it. I remember him saying he got less than 100k for Parker WBO title fight, I do wonder what if any financial planning advice these people get when they get big money.gilgamesh wrote: ↑27 Dec 2023, 14:26He made his money from the Joshua fights.
