The WBU Title

Really makes me wonder why boxers go down this route, does it pay better than Commonwealth or EBU titles ???

On a more positive note i hope Hobson wins, seems a good fella :TU:

Probably does - financially - but other than that it's a dead end route. Being WBU champion of the world, he won't get ranked by the EBU, and by (most, I think) of the sanctioning bodies.

This leaves him at the mercy of a promotor to pick him out of choice for a bigger fight in the future.

I do like the sound of a Hobson-Maccarinelli rematch

Pays better and allows the promoter to bill the fight as world championship boxing. Also covers the promoters backside should a main event pull out.

i.e If harrison JMM is made for Nov, with hobson defending his WBU on the undercard, and JMM pulls out Warren will not have to refund tickets as Hobsons fight will cover the billing of world championship boxing. Like it or not Hobson for the WBU is world championship boxing.

WBU champions are still ranked by the major sanctioning bodies. Hatton became both WBO and IBF mandatory while defending the WBU belt.

Precisely. In fact the WBU's mickey mouse status actually helps in some ways, because the other governing bodies just ignore it. If you're a WBO champion, then you have far more problems as you can be stuck fighting bullshit mandatories whilst never getting ranked by the other bodies.

Micky mouse title or not, I always like to watch Hobson, he usually gives value for money.
Hobson should be to much for Polakovic, who looks like he has a decent chin but not a big punch.
Hobson does have a habit of making easier fight harder than they should be, but i think he'll be switched on from the start, and stop Polakovic in 8-9 rounds.

Can't see your logic there. Hobson took the first Maccarinelli fight at three weeks' notice after 15 months out and still pushed him to the limit. Hobson is a threat to Enzo. I noticed the big Welshman watching Hobson closely at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Friday.
