David Haye vs Steve Cunningham (2008)

Cunningham was the only titlist Haye hasn't unified against back in 2008, as he moved up to HW after Maccarineli fight.

If Haye-Cunningham would've happened - it would've been a fight for undisputed.

I assume Haye would've been favoured. But how do you see this fight going?

I pick Cunningham by the thinnest of margins. Both were very special at cruiser.

With guys like Cunningham and Hassan N'dam - you can always count on them getting dropped at least (!) twice during the fight. Especially, if they face a puncher. I don't know if that's a chin issue with them both or some balance issues.

I'd pick Haye.

Cunningham would make it a fight (as he always does). And I think that from the standpoint of fundamental technique, he's a better fighter of the two.

But as stated above, Cunningham couldn't avoid getting dropped in his fights. Tomasz Adamek managed to put Cunningham down 4 times in that same 2008. Adamek could crack below HW, but he wasn't remotely as hard of a puncher as a peak Haye was. So...

I think, those rounds where Cunningham stays on his feet, would've been close. Also, when Steve moves and makes Haye come to him - he'll make Haye swing those shots and hit air quite often.

However, at some point, Cunningham will go fire with fire and that's when Haye will use his timing to full effect - as he'll be catching Cunningham on the way in, and will be hurting/dropping him.

Steve had very long arms and was effective inside with uppercuts. He was supremely conditioned and although dropped recovered quickly

I think his conditioning gets eeks him past haye, whose conditioning qas suspect at cruiser

Either Hayes outbox and outpunch Cunningham to take a decision or stopping him late.
