18x18 size ring tonight
Someone’s getting knocked out.
Could get very interesting if Callum lands the big left hook as Art comes in

Been discussing this a lot in our gym, some very knowledgable coaches said it’s not the catch-shoot-left hook. They think back hand down the pipe on his way in. People have got wise to that “Callum Smith Left Hook.” If he waits for a counter he might be waiting all night like against Canelo. Hopefully a bit more proactivity. Also, Buddy Mc has been tryna make him a bit slicker and more fluid, which seems like a good idea.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑13 Jan 2024, 13:47 18x18 size ring tonight

My nerves are absolutely shredded laa this is the most I’ve felt like this before a fight in years and years.

really hope Callum wins, good advocate for the sport, never effing and jeffin and lives the life. And a super talented boxer.

me too got a lot of respect for him and really want him to win this .SeanBrennan wrote: ↑13 Jan 2024, 14:20 really hope Callum wins, good advocate for the sport, never effing and jeffin and lives the life. And a super talented boxer.
he shud have done better vs canelo - apparently only had a 5 week camp and of course was struggling to make weight at 168 .
Canelo was v sneaky punching the left bicep to mince - so he was obviously wary of the left hands coming his way .

“Or maybe they think they’re catching me on short notice and maybe reading into me last performance and maybe think the weight’s hurting me. I don’t know. Listen, only they know that. All I know is I feel a hundred percent, I feel really good, and I believe the best version of me steps through them ropes this weekend. And if that’s the case, then I believe I’ll win.”
“I was in the gym, training,” Smith said. “I wasn’t just out partying. I was in training. I wasn’t training specifically for Canelo Alvarez, but I was in the gym, training, trying to improve little parts of me game. And then the phone call came four weeks [out]. If I wasn’t in a position where I thought I’d be ready, I’d have passed on the fight. I’d have said, ‘Listen, we’ll try and get it next year, with crowds or whatever. As long as I’ve got my belt, I’m in a position to land a big fight.’ So, I assessed it. I said, ‘You know what? Four weeks, I’m in pretty good shape now. In four weeks, I’ll be a hundred percent.’ And that’s how I feel.”
“I stayed in the gym this year, throughout the pandemic, training, hoping that a big fight could be made, and it has.”

but I also want to see Bert smash him to bits at the same time. .
Like Smith a lot and it would be an amazing win for him, but I love the idea of “The Beast” being 20(20!)-0. First time I saw him I thought “he’s my new favourite fighter to watch” and nothing’s changed.
Ya gotta love Bert..

I thought it was odd in the Boxing News preview that no mention was made of the fact Canelo effectively neutered him by punching his bicep. Surely that’s a rare approach? Isn’t it just likely to happen again in this fight?

Yeah, I caught that online, the insufferable Elliot Worsell, who just waffles on about nonsense and then always goes with the favourite. I know a lot of people seem to like him, but he’s a real bore,SeanBrennan wrote: ↑13 Jan 2024, 16:24good point, did not think of that and I read the BN article this morning.polecateddy wrote: ↑13 Jan 2024, 16:16 I thought it was odd in the Boxing News preview that no mention was made of the fact Canelo effectively neutered him by punching his bicep. I looked at the odds on Callum. They were 5/1 against earlier in the week and 3/1 this morning. Not very appealing considering the odds are stacked against him here, home cooking on the cards whichever way you look at it - the WBC clearly love “their champion”

Shirow wrote: ↑12 Jan 2024, 06:26 I was thinking all along that this should be a straight forward bludgeoning by Beterbiev because of how he reacted to some heavy handed pressure from the much smaller and weaker Canelo. But what if Smith was genuinely dead at SMW for the Canelo fight so if the plan was to surrender his title for the payday and hopefully not take too much damage maybe he is really much better than at LHW and not just flattered by his last couple of substandard opponents.
After full consideration I don't think we'll be seeing much of what Smith showed against Lenin Castillo and Bauderlique on the night. 7th round bludgeoning TKO by Zangieff.

I have to stop getting getting these predictions so absolutely spot on.forcefraser wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 08:32 I think we may see a shellacking of epic proportions here. Smith is tough, he took a beating from Canelo and never really looked like going down, but Artur hits way harder and will be on him non stop.
If Smith survives past 8 rounds I`ll be very surprised. Beterbiev cuts off the ring so well and doesn`t mind taking a dig to get into range. Smith`s ribs will be screaming after a few rounds and I reckon we`ll see him take a Dubois style knee and hope his corner throws the towel in so he doesn`t have to quit in the ring.
Smith was tough and brave, but let's face it he was beaten up badly in there.

Such insolence. Some credit for the accuracy of the prediction would be in order. Shellacking, not past 8 and corner stoppage after knee.ShadrachSimmo wrote: ↑14 Jan 2024, 03:03Yup 8/13 on Bert stoppage was good value.forcefraser wrote: ↑14 Jan 2024, 02:59I have to stop getting getting these predictions so absolutely spot on.forcefraser wrote: ↑09 Jan 2024, 08:32 I think we may see a shellacking of epic proportions here. The realisation that there is a whole new level above world level will be what he is dealing with right now.
He's made a good few quid and achieved more than most in the sport. He'll probably hang em up.
The cold hard facts of a resumě evaluation is not the most impressive however.
On paper he beat Ryder, but most thought he was gifted that decision, as do I
So he best wins are possibly ageing back end versions of Groves, N'Dam and Castillo,
Followed by Rocky Fae Stocky and that C
Van Damn kickboxer in the Super Six.
Can't see how anyone thinks that list prepares you for Beterbiev. The man is an utter wrecking ball and Smith was just fodder from the off
Bivol is another story, but even he will struggle to keep Beterbie off him for 12 rounds, as he hasn't got huge power himself
