Beterbiev is very good, but I didn't expect Call to get hit so cleanly, so early in the fight. Smith just couldn't keep him at range. I've always overrated Callum Smith, picking him to beat Canelo and Beterbiev.

Can't see how anyone thinks that list prepares you for Beterbiev. The man is an utter wrecking ball and Smith was just fodder from the off

Bivol is another story, but even he will struggle to keep Beterbie off him for 12 rounds, as he hasn't got huge power himself

It’s a fair assessment. The sky Sports fanboys were sucking dick big time it gets very queasy very quickly. Smiths a decent fighter but he was well out his depth last night.

I thought it was odd in the Boxing News preview that no mention was made of the fact Canelo effectively neutered him by punching his bicep. Surely that’s a rare approach? Isn’t it just likely to happen again in this fight?

I looked at the odds on Callum. They were 5/1 against earlier in the week and 3/1 this morning. Not very appealing considering the odds are stacked against him here, home cooking on the cards whichever way you look at it - the WBC clearly love “their champion”

Take groves out (groves was past his best) and who is Smiths biggest win. N’Dam a career middle, fielding? it’s hardly a who’s who of world beaters. I like smith and I hope he’s earnt a shed load of money for him and his family but I just don’t think he was true world class

Who cares where he lives? Televising the contest at a time suitable for a Russian and British audience obviously makes more commercial sense for a title fight between a Russian and a Brit.

Maybe for you personally, but with respect Top Rank, an American promotional company, won the purse bids and their paymasters are ESPN and obviously for the larger lucrative American market, it made more commercial sense for it to be shown on Saturday night prime time in America… Also Top Rank do sort of know how to make money out of professional boxing…

It was on regular ESPN and didn't even get 1m viewers. Eddie Hearn put Bellew vs Haye on PPV and it got 1.5m purchases.

Channel 5 has pulled in 1.5m viewers in the UK for the free cards they've picked up from York Hall and such.

800k for this fight was a pathetic figure and proof it should've been geared for an audience this side of the Atlantic.

that's fair enough. I just think we age people badly when they lose.
