175 significant fights...

Post by Ezzard »

In terms of historical significance we have a fight on the horizon Bivol-Beterbiev that is a 5-star fight.

Others in the division

Tunney-Loughran
Tunney-Greb series
Tunney-Gibbons

Charles-Moore series

Moore-Johnson series

Spinks-Braxton night make this list too.

 I thought you were starting a salsaesque thread and that you would list and do a rd-by-rd recap description of 175 different meaningful fights in history.

Or Hill vs Maske for that matter. Both unification fights against longtime alphabet beltholders, although both in Germany during a super corrupt era there so hard to tell the significance

Hearns v Hill was a big fight at the time as well

Good talking points but don't feel like these other fights really pit two ATGs at 175 against one another.

Charles-Bivins and Charles-Marshall might make it.

Maxim was a great fighter, just not quite at Moore's level. There were bigger fights, but these fights were a big deal.

Braxton-Spinks should not be questioned. One of the biggest light heavyweight fights ever.

Here are some others tha tI don't believe have been mentioned:
Spinks-Mustapha Muhammad
Marvin Johnson-Mustapha Muhammad
Marvin Johnson-Galindez
Saad Muhammad-Marvin Johnson
Harold Johnson-Bivins
Maxsie Rosenbloom-John Henry Lewis series.
Battling Levinsky-Jack Dillion series

Did we forgot Archie Moore vs Yvonne Durelle fight #1 in Montreal, Canada in 1958?

It was a brutal contest in which the Ol' Mongoose was dropped about 4 or 5 times and he still won the fight by a 11th round knockout.

The Moore-Durelle fight #1 was arguably the best fight of the 1950s decade.

I think the idea was fights that were matchups between ATGs. Durelle was not one.
But yeah,it was a great fight. Saad-Muhammad-Lopez was like that as well.
