Listened on the radio and seems everyone thought Mayer won, online same opinion. Did anyone think Jonas done enough?

I had her 3-0 up and still losing.
Draw just about acceptable by I don’t think anyone on here gave it to NJ.

I'm fully supportive of women's boxing despite my criticisms about how it's run. I think we need to show women the respect of 3-min rounds and honest appraisals. Doesn't mean we don't credit them with the bravery of getting in there.CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:220 x 0 would suit most people just fine

A draw would be a bad decision, but excusable. NJ win just that stretch further down the rabbit hole..
For TWO judges to give NJ SIX rounds is smelly.
What say you..?

if a draw is an excusable result, a decision to either fighter is unlikely to be dreadful. it's just a 1 point difference. if the decision would be that bad, then it sounds like it shouldnt have been a draw either and that 1 fighter got robbedskanksta wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:30Well it is tho’ isn’t it..?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:25draw is just 1 point off a jonas win tbf..........if someone thinks a draw is okay it aint much of a stretch!

Prizefighter can be fun because of the “fast compressed action” but rounds just ARE 3 minutes. Equality AND more KOs.., gotta happen.

draw “just about acceptable” = still a bad decision, but nobody gets a loss, more money+interest in a rematch, so what..
Mayer LOST there !?
Did you score it ?

Did'nt watch it but definetly not suprised theres something off about it at the end , be it the result or lack of skills , after all it is 2 minuite rnds , ametuers , and novice and juniuor amateurs at that , and its women , so take it all into account , then throw Yarde on the bill and Naaw no way am i getting up early to watch this one , And in fact i did'nt have to get up early i was already up late night watching movies , alls i had to do was stay in my chair , with my feet up and work the remote controls , i went to bed instead .
Thank god for the Saudi fights , boxing would be completly dead without them

nah didnt watch it. i just dont get it when someone keeps saying they can see the draw but a decision to jonas would be some sort of stitch up type job......all you need is a 1 point difference. sounds like you dont actually think a draw is excusable either though...

Most of us are happy to watch lower-level stuff presented as-is. We've all seen great undercard fights from boxers nowhere near a top 20.
And that applies to women's UFC for me, but the gap's more obvious in boxing and I think it does more harm than good when our comms blow smoke. The product's fine, it's the marketing and corruption to suit.

I don't see how a draw would be excusable. Jonas won 3 rounds max.

We'd all be saying she tried hard and gave a good account of herself if she'd lost by a couple. She deserves praise for that but it's overshadowed now.
Imagine how gutted you'd be to read our comments the day after you'd won a fight, with all the leeches around you saying we're just bitter and there wasn't any dodginess.

Mayer has two losses now in the UK and sure looked like she won both of them. I had her 7-3 today.

Yes, exactly.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:39 nah didnt watch it. i just dont get it when someone keeps saying they can see the draw but a decision to jonas would be some sort of stitch up type job......all you need is a 1 point difference. sounds like you dont actually think a draw is excusable either though...
“Draw just about excusable” meaning it wasn’t a draw, but a minor stitch up where there’s no loss on the record, no damage to earning power etc.
And you can get 2 rounds wrong, but it’s 50% worse to get 3 wrong.
If Mayer heard 97-93 and 2x 95-95, she wouldn’t be nearly as demoralised and frustrated by boxing.
And nor would we.

The Da Bomb fight was much closer - very little happened and it was a narrow split.Boxingguru75 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:58 Mayer has two losses now in the UK and sure looked like she won both of them. I had her 7-3 today.
Pretty much everyone scored this for Mayer by 1-5 rounds. Nobody scored for Tash !
Re: Round-by-Round: Natasha Jonas vs. Mikaela Mayer | Sky Sports - 20 January 2024
Scouse bias really not helping lately
Nah she lost, not happy with the decision myself. I was in the nosebleeds but seemed like the odd good counter was going in but MM was just throwing and landing a lot more.
TJ was trying to box and move all night and that got harder as her legs tired. If it WAS 12 3’s like everyone is saying she really would’ve got walked down.
I think 12 3s is a big jump. 10 3s are a good idea

I've not seen the fight tonight, but Mayer fought a coin flip of a fight with Hamadouche and won what was practically a shutout on the cards so she's had favourable treatment herself in the past, and I wouldn't feel too sorry for her.Boxingguru75 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:58 Mayer has two losses now in the UK and sure looked like she won both of them. It really is a very cruel and unfair sport at times.

And about women’s boxing in general:
I love how it’s going in general, I watch it at all levels from unified world titles to tiny kids on club shows. I help coach the kids class in our gym sometimes and there’s some really talented girls out there. Also seeing more and more women coaches. Which at the very least translates into more subs for the grass roots gyms.
A shallow talent pool wasn’t gonna grow overnight and that’s the biggest problem at the minute. There’s the ones who get undisputed at 2 weights and… the rest. I’ve been told a few times lately by girls that Tash is their hero, or Katie Taylor, and when all these girls grow up well have a more competitive scene
One thing tho, that show tonight was busier than any Echo show in a good while and full of women and kids. First time in ages I haven’t seen a scrap or anyone visibly off their tits on Charlie. The atmosphere was great people were singing and dancing everywhere. Don’t get that at the mens

I'm not a fan of female boxing and the way (same as other televised sports) it's shoved down our throats.
This cringeworthy agenda needs to stop because no-one, and I mean no-one can possibly defend that crap we saw tonight.
Jonas won no more than 3 rounds, she just didn't.
She hasn't done more for Scouse boxing than Conteh, she just hasn't.
There's only about half a dozen of the better promoted ones even know how tmove round a ring. There is no talent pool, there just isn't.
Promoters, pundits and commentary talking about boring amateurish posing and slapping like it's Hagler/Hearst. It just isn't.
The reason (despite chirping for equality) that they don't do 3 minutes per round, they just can't.
Stop serving this shite up as headline events. It's embarrassing. It just is.
Anyone defending that crap should be embarrassed and ashamed.

Womens boxing is starting to get some history and context and I think that will make it more enjoyable.
It's like every time a Brit underdog goes to USA the old Honeyghan v Curry gets trotted out. Hagler v Hearns, Tyson intimidation, sublime Ricardo Lopez and all of the journeys we've been on as fans with fights and fighters.
Those memories/touchpoints are only just starting to form with women's boxing but they are happening.
Katie Taylor fights are unmissable, and other characters are good to follow. Yes, there's a fair bit of dross but that also goes for men and the 60-54 vanity bouts.
I just wish commentary teams would be real as the endless veneer of positivity is really grating. If its good, say so. If its bad, say so. Surely that's easy enough otherwise it cheapens the whole thing.

Maybe that's the issue with women's boxing. I went to bed and listened to the fight on talksport. Watched the fight before the main event, the super middle fight but knew the main event would go the distance and wouldn't see any knock downs. Anyway back to my point. I think if you put the time up to 3 minutes per round there might be some difference in viewing and outcomes of fights. It certainly sounded like Mayer won on the commentary I was listening to.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:28I'm fully supportive of women's boxing despite my criticisms about how it's run. Incidentally are the gloves they use exactly the same as men's gloves?
I'm not a great fan of watching women's boxing as down the leagues it looks like a fight outside of Aldi for the last bottle of Prime.
