Mayer was a clear winner. It was competitive, but can't see how Jonas was given that.
I shoulda known better than to bet on the away fighter in a UK ring, yeah I shoulda known better

Good question about the glove, I’ll ask my gymMasterG wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 05:13Maybe that's the issue with women's boxing. I went to bed and listened to the fight on talksport. Watched the fight before the main event, the super middle fight but knew the main event would go the distance and wouldn't see any knock downs. Anyway back to my point. I think if you put the time up to 3 minutes per round there might be some difference in viewing and outcomes of fights. It certainly sounded like Mayer won on the commentary I was listening to.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:28I'm fully supportive of women's boxing despite my criticisms about how it's run. Or 10x3 on their own dedicated channel
Incidentally are the gloves they use exactly the same as men's gloves?
I'm not a great fan of watching women's boxing as down the leagues it looks like a fight outside of Aldi for the last bottle of Prime.
and het back to you today.

Said my thoughts better than I could. Pretty much exactly thisGrilling Machine wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:45Most of us are happy to watch lower-level stuff presented as-is. We've all seen great undercard fights from boxers nowhere near a top 20.
And that applies to women's UFC for me, but the gap's more obvious in boxing and I think it does more harm than good when our comms blow smoke. The product's fine, it's the marketing and corruption to suit.

Womens same gloves as men. 154+ it’s 10oz and below is 8oz.Delta Jay wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 07:01Good question about the glove, I’ll ask my gymMasterG wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 05:13Maybe that's the issue with women's boxing. Just another disgrace of a decision. The volume and more hurtful shots came from Mayer. Jonas will no doubt bottle a rematch.forcefraser wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 06:03 Mayer was a clear winner. It was competitive, but can't see how Jonas was given that.

Tough on Mayer, can't make a case for Jonas winning, not even nearly

Embarrassing, but look at those punch stats. Mayer didn't even land a single jab for 5 of the 10 rounds and in the other 5 only landed 12.

Jonas will have the small crowd going potty everytime she throws even if she misses by 6 inches.
In saying that if Jonas wins a legitimate decision Mayer will give it the 'I was taking them on arms and gloves' line that's so often used. That’s a good prediction

I’m really struggling with the Jonas hype train.
I am genuinely a big fan, she has done a lot for women’s boxing, but I can’t help but feel there has been an element of disingenuity around the last few years of her career.
She was exceptionally ‘well managed’ to a world title - and then heralded as the second coming of Ali. Bellew even saying she’s achieved more than the likes of Conteh.
Then last night took it to another level. I cannot fathom how Natasha, Joe G, the Sky team etc genuinely believed she won.
They didn’t even really acknowledge the decision was controversial in the endless interviews.
I’d like to think it’s because they are so close to it and only seeing what they want to see, but at times I thought I was in an alternate reality.
It felt like they’d adopted the Donald Trump playbook.

It's a very, very rare thing for a boxer to get the nod then admit they lost .Frostieballs wrote: ↑21 Jan 2024, 13:42 I’m really struggling with the Jonas hype train.

Richie Woodhall one I can remember I think against Cattley admitted he shouldn't have got the decision and you have to admire his honesty but somehow most seem oblivious to the actual truth.

Instead we had Jonas elevated to demigod status with about 5 hours of interviews to herald this great victory.
Re: Round-by-Round: Natasha Jonas vs. Mikaela Mayer | Sky Sports - 20 January 2024
147 and up, including 147? So, if two welters weigh 146 they’re 8oz, but if one of them welters is 147, then he wears 10oz gloves in their fight?

If female boxers demand 3-min rounds, they certainly deserve what they want.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:28 I'm fully supportive of women's boxing despite my criticisms about how it's run. I think we need to show women the respect of 3-min rounds and honest appraisals.
But do they really demand it? How many famous persons in women's boxing have said that? OK, Amanda Serrano and ... ?
It seems Serrano is trying to force others to go 3-min...
Re: Round-by-Round: Natasha Jonas vs. Mikaela Mayer | Sky Sports - 20 January 2024
I can't believe how diplomatic Mayer was after the fight. Obviously doesn't want to jeopardise future pay days.
This is twice now that she has being robbed on these shores. I bet she would like to say I'm never boxing here again as you are corrupt.
to the core.
Looks like it is a one way rematch clause, so with the state of Jonas's face I can't see her wanting to take another beating from Mayer, so will no doubt look for an easier swansong.

I backed Mayer in a double and other bet won
I feel robbed, angry, aggrieved etc.
I'm thinking of cancelling sky sports (probably wont) but somebody should be accountable over these decisions
I will write to the British board of control and post my reply
In fairness to them they have always replied to any email I have sent
Boxing is in such a mess
I feel robbed, angry, aggrieved etc.

I was watching the odds in play.
Mayer was 4/7 at the start of the last round, so even the bookies thought she had it.

You guys should know better than betting against a hometown decision.

Never 150 seconds mate that’s just silly sozGrilling Machine wrote: ↑20 Jan 2024, 19:17 I'm sure the elephant in the room is that promoters lack commercial faith in longer timeslots for women's boxing, but no reason they can't do 8x3 instead. Meet in the middle even and have 2.5-min rounds.
Re: Round-by-Round: Natasha Jonas vs. Mikaela Mayer | Sky Sports - 20 January 2024
I’ve been told by a pro coach that they always have the same gloves, but he’s seen it where 2 welters weighed 146 and could choose 8oz and it caused a lot of drama.
I’m honestly no clearer on the situation mate soz
