Boxrec biggest mystery is why is Eubank Jr the number one middleweight in the world.

He's not too old, he's just not good enough.

I agree with this.

He's this eras howard eastman, though Eastman was a better boxer.

I don't think that Vincenzo Gualtieri is any better than Chris Eubank Jr.

hahaha this made me chuckle, it's a good analogy. I always respected Howard's hairline tho, refused to admit baldness and just let it recede to below his arse and still maintain it is a legit hairline. In 2023 it now starts at his calf. True story.

Hahaha, yeah he probably grew Dreads in his arse crack to conpensate.

I remember when he fought joppy, everyone said "he could have won if he was more aggresive"

Thing was, every time he tried to, Joppy was nailing him with uppercuts, he just wasn't good enough against the top fighters. Tough nut, good at European and British level, but not at world level.

I remember this fight, I watched it as I was a Mccracken fan and Howard beat him the fight before (and started Mccracken started training him after iirc). I think people have pretended Eastman was robbed in the Joppy fight cos one of the judges scored it a draw and knocked Joppy down in last round. I am sad enough to have scored it with zero noise and had Joppy winning. Joppy had an epic career and was still fighting for world titles at light heavy into hid 40s.

Anyone know what became of Eastman? His last 13 of 14 fights were in his birth nation into his 40s. His story would be a good auto or biography, I remember reading he was imprisoned at end of his career, was a British soldier in his youth, and homeless too for a period.

If he was offered a mega payday in Saudi but no title at stake or a title shot in the UK against a beatable opponent for far less money I know which one he would take.

I worked with Howard during his time on the BBC. Like Herbie, he was a very interesting character who I only have good memories of.

He went back to Guyana and competed there for a bit. Elliot Worsell did an article on him not too long back:

good article, Worsell refers to an interview he did with him when he was 16, did not know he started that young as a boxing writer, fair play.

I don't think Eubank is even interested in winning a world title, he's just interested in whichever fights pay him the most money

I remember Elliot when he started out (he won’t remember me!).

I was actually working on that show he mentions (against Cherifi). Howard really was a cut above European level.

can't argue with that, he has earned well from what I've read/heard.
