I remember that, typical Woodhall to be honest. I remember Ohara Davies said same vs Vasquez too.
Refreshing isn't it , someone should do a thread about the most honest boxers .
Good idea. Who else do people have?
I'm pretty sure Tom Stalker said he hadn't won a fight when he got the nod , there must be others .

I don't recall 'ripping the title away' being part of the judges scoring criteria, just another lazy boxing cliche. Another close fight that could've gone either way, that always goes to the home fighter. This is getting boring now, and women's world title fights, they should be at the very least 10 x 3's, they are grown adults after all.

I am genuinely a big fan, she has done a lot for women’s boxing, but I can’t help but feel there has been an element of disingenuity around the last few years of her career.

She was exceptionally ‘well managed’ to a world title - and then heralded as the second coming of Ali. Bellew even saying she’s achieved more than the likes of Conteh.

Then last night took it to another level. I cannot fathom how Natasha, Joe G, the Sky team etc genuinely believed she won.

They didn’t even really acknowledge the decision was controversial in the endless interviews.

I’d like to think it’s because they are so close to it and only seeing what they want to see, but at times I thought I was in an alternate reality.

It felt like they’d adopted the Donald Trump playbook.
It's a very, very rare thing for a boxer to get the nod then admit they lost .
Richie Woodhall one I can remember I think against Cattley admitted he shouldn't have got the decision and you have to admire his honesty but somehow most seem oblivious to the actual truth.
I was more looking for a little humility and acknowledgment it was a close fight.

Instead we had Jonas elevated to demigod status with about 5 hours of interviews to herald this great victory.
Jonas was like, 'well I've been robbed before, it's someone else's turn now!'

Joe’s logic has changed. He didn’t seem to think you had to rip the title away from the champion when Jonas was the challenger to Harper or when Paul Smith challenged Abraham.

I think is the issue with Jordan. He is good at grilling people but because he’s not a hardcore fan he struggles to call out people’s hypocrisy. It happened loads in the Hearn interviews too.

best of luck to her, seems a really nice person but Gallagher insight is not what anyone needs. Gallagher = you're not champ unless you kill the champ. Twice. It's his dogs I feel sorry for (I know....)

147 and up, sorry. If two welters weigh 146 they’re 8oz
147 and up, including 147? So, if two welters weigh 146 they’re 8oz, but if one of them welters is 147, then he wears 10oz gloves in their fight?
I’ve been told by a pro coach that they always have the same gloves, but he’s seen it where 2 welters weighed 146 and could choose 8oz and it caused a lot of drama.

I’m honestly no clearer on the situation mate soz
See https://bbbofc.com/build/documents/Rule ... s_2023.pdf at rule 3.23 for the BBBofC rules on this. Weight of the contest is determined by the weight of the heavier fighter. So if one weights 148 and the other 144, it is a super-welterweight fight, so both wear 10oz gloves. If both fighters weigh 147, it is a welterweight fight, and both weight 8oz gloves. Hope that helps.

Jones vs Mayer attracted a peak audience of 269,000 and an average audience of 149,000, making it one of the most watched women’s boxing events on Sky Sports.

BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “Natasha Jonas and Mikaela Mayer put it all on the line to deliver one of the greatest fights I’ve had the privilege of watching from ringside.

“The atmosphere inside the arena was electric. I am delighted that so many people tuned in live on Sky Sports to witness their epic world title tussle.

“At BOXXER we want to be a force for good for women’s boxing. We will continue to provide a platform and opportunities for female fighters to showcase their skills on the biggest stage.

“From our record-breaking women’s night in 2022 to last Saturday’s world title fight, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved so far.

“The viewing figures speak for themselves. 269,000 viewers tuning in to watch Natasha defend her world title shows there’s a huge demand for women’s boxing.

“I look forward to many more big fight nights featuring our female stars in the future.”

They don’t normally release figures. The fact they did means that they must be pretty good for Sky. 149k average compared to some other sports is still relatively low though. Every session of the world championship darts for example would have done far more than that and the final had a record at over 3m viewers.

Sky Sports spends the bulk of its money on the premier league and F1 so the rest will be pivoted to what delivers the most value for money.

“Epic world title tussle” disingenuously screams Dodgy Ben desperately hoping that everyone will notice his virtue signalling and that it might deflect attention from the fact that we now know he’s in cahoots with a serious fraudster.

It is pretty good compared to a low key men's event. Some British Titles do under £100k.

Shields Marshall peaked at over 1 million, so this is small fry in comparison, but they did throw that on showcase too.

It was reportefd that Petitjean vs Azim peaked at 200k

I don't believe these figures for Jonas are anything other than being an average Saturday viewing

I watched it
Enjoyed it

But Hagler v Hearns it was not. That nonsense descriptive needs banning.

In the TS video above, Joe just being supportive of his fighter but if the shoe was on the other foot he’d be an unhappy chappie.

I used to look through the BARB figures regularly. They don’t give details of every broadcast, only the most viewed, but even then you would see some boxing shows at under 100k.

Admittedly that was a few years ago. However, some fights are still coming in at around that.

Billam-Smith only did 78k recently at its peak according to this report…

RE:- JONAS V MAYER

Thank you for your correspondence and thoughts on the result of the Jonas v Mayer contest. I am sure you agree, it was a very close contest with Jonas starting well and Mayer having a good end to the contest.

I was in attendance and believed the result could have gone either way, however, the Judges, one from the UK, one from the USA and one from Germany judged the bout as they saw the bout. It should be added the American Judge had Jonas winning the contest.

The scoring of contests is subjective, however, the bout was well matched and hopefully a return can occur in the future.

Yours sincerely,

ROBERT W. SMITH

General Secretary

Hahhaa!! I hate when they use that, " US judge had the Brit winning" or vice versa..

Like it means sumat.

Yeh it's subjective, whether you see it close or going both ways, when the majority have one winner close but clear, then it is gonna be controversial.
