Nikolai Valuev vs Michael Grant

Post by Joson »

12 rounds, each guy in his respective prime. Who wins and why?

This one's hard to call, but I somehow sense that Valuev wins, although I can't say how. I do think Grant would give a good account of himself.

Grant would won by UD but he would be a robbed.Valuev by controversial decision.

That's actually a fascinating fight. I don't have an immediate opinion on this one, to be honest. This is the case where I'll sit back and read what people think.

P.S. That said, I'm tempted to pick Valuev on points. I think, Grant definitely had the tools and the size to compete (and to win) here. He also could actually hurt Valuev. But I don't remember who said this about Grant. That was something along lines - "People around Grant believed in him more than he believed in himself".

If we take those aforementioned words into account - he could make Valuev better (in his own mind) than Valuev actually was. And not that Valuev sucked. We spoke about it here recently - the Giant could box some. But Grant, for some reason, could be unsure of himself. Maybe, because of Valuev' size and etc.

Also, Grant could be outboxed (Golota fight).

I remember Grant was regarded as an up-and-coming fighter who'd someday dominate the division. In 1999 he sparred with the Klitschko brothers, and got the better of them or held his own. That's what I read in one of the boxing magazines covering the brothers' US visit that year.

That's interesting. Always fascinating to revisit such nuances.

Either Grant take a decision somewhere in America or Valuev would outbox him in Germany to take a decision or stopping him late.
