Devin Haney vs. Gervonta Davis - Who wins?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Turki Alalshikh Wants Devin Haney, Gervonta Davis To Fight in Saudi Arabia in 2024

The most powerful figure in boxing, some say, wants two highly regarded American boxers to join the lucrative jamboree that is all the rage these days in the Middle East. (photo by Ryan Hafey)

In a long interview with DAZN published this week, Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Authority for Entertainment in Saudi Arabia, issued a generous invitation to boxers Devin Haney, the WBC 140-pound titlist, and Gervonta Davis to fight on a card sometime later this year in the oil-producing nation. Presumably, Alalshikh would also want to see the two fighters take on each other as well.

“I want him (Davis) and I send message now from you to [Davis’ advisor Al] Haymon: ‘Let’s do job [together], brother,’” Alalshikh said. “But Haney I want to see in my country and I send message from you now to him. I will try to do it in 2024. And Davis of course we want him in our country.”

Thanks to Alalshikh and his ability to dip into Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth, boxing has seen numerous high-profile fights made in the past few months, including the stacked heavyweight-laden card on Dec. 23 that featured Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder in separate fights. The country will notably host the undisputed heavyweight championship between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Uysk on Feb. 17, followed by a “crossover” bout between Joshua and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in March.

Alalshikh has been bullish about his commitment to boxing, saying recently that he wants to actively bring about the sorts of fights that have long been considered impossible because of business politics. One example: the undisputed light heavyweight championship between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

Haney is a free agent whose last fight took place under Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, while Davis has long been backed by Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champion.

Both Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) are relatively recent converts to Islam. Alalshikh has spoken fondly of Muslim boxers, such as Beterbiev.

Gervonta Davis on Fighting in Saudi Arabia: ‘If They Want Me They Gotta Send Me Something … Like 2 Ferraris’

The 29-year-old Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) offered a few pointed responses on his X account this past weekend.

“They made me mad, if they want me they gotta send me something to my front door..like 2 Ferraris or [something]!” Davis wrote.

“Like before I even think about going over there,” Davis added.

When a user accused Davis of being “scared” to fight in Saudi Arabia, Davis responded, “Nope, I’m the one with the power [smirk emoji].”

Here we go, another massive fight that won't happen until one or both are past it, or have had a major defeat on their record.

As usual, simple greed will be to blame, as everyone is too risk averse to risk their unbeaten record.

Boxing is shite.

Davis is a pussy if he doesn't take this, they are throwing money at it, if he still doesn't want it, then he has zero pride.

If I'm Wahid, I'm putting a rehydration clause on such a fight. Let's see fights decided by who is the superior boxer, not who is superior at rehydrating.

Haney will be too big and simply just doesn`t have that Amir Khan like vulnerability about him - so I go Haney wide decision win.

You don't get many opportunities to make fights like this in their prime.

Turki Alalshikh Responds To Gervonta Davis 'Two Ferraris' Comment: We Will Send You Two Gloves - That’s It

Turki Alalshikh apparently has no desire to start begging the biggest American boxing star to come over to Saudi Arabia.

Alalshikh, the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in the oil-producing country, recently said in an interview that he hopes Gervonta Davis, the power puncher from Baltimore, Maryland, will fight in Saudi Arabia sometime in 2024.

When an annoyed Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) got wind of Alalshikh’s comment, he fancied that he would need at least “two Ferraris” or something to that effect to even begin thinking about fighting in the Middle East.

“They made me mad, if they want me they gotta send me something to my front door, like 2 Ferraris or [something]!” Davis wrote on his X account.

Alalshikh did not seem to take too kindly to those words. In response, Alalshikh offered a curt reply to Davis during a recent interview with The MMA Hour, making it clear there won't be any added incentives anymore.

“I heard in the media Davis said, send to me two Ferraris to play in Saudi Arabia,” Alalshikh said. “I said to him we will send you two gloves if you want to play in Saudi Arabia, that’s it.”

Saudi Arabia has emerged in recent months as a significant boxing destination. Under Alalshikh, the country has hosted and announced a slew of high-profile fights, including the upcoming “crossover” bout between former champion Anthony Joshua and former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

The undisputed heavyweight championship between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk was supposed to take place later this month, in Riyadh, but it was postponed last Friday after it was revealed that Fury suffered a gruesome cut during sparring.

Alalshikh has confirmed that the new date for that fight is May 18.

Alalshikh also confirmed that the undisputed light heavyweight championship between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will take place in June in Riyadh.

Davis, a longtime advisee of Al Haymon, the media-averse powerbroker and founder of Premier Boxing Champions, is expected to fight later this year on Amazon Prime pay-per-view.

I wasn't being particularly clear was I :D
This is a fight that can made based off of where they are in weight right now.
Davis on a guess will go the Floyd model and avoid it.

At this point I think it's well beyond clear that Davis will duck every potentially threatening opponent for as long as he can. Whether it's him or his management's decision doesn't really matter. It all comes down to the same thing. He doesn't fight meaningful fights, and apparently never will.

Whoever pays the judges the most. Both Davis and Haney have had robberies in their favour. So I guess they will cancel each other out and this will be a fair result. Haney

Haney had like one close fight, that could've gone either way.
At worst he lost 7-5, far from a "robbery".
