Tyson Fury should be stripped of his WBC title: do you agree?
He hasn't really defended it since Dillian Whyte in April 2022, that's two years ago.
Chisora he had already defeated twice, that's not a proper defense, and Ngannou was a boxing novice in his very first pro fight.
He avoided a Usyk unification during all of 2023, and fought a boxing novice instead. Now he chickens out (as many predicted) of fighting Usyk. Sure he has a cut - people often do get cut when sparring - but it would be fine in a few weeks.

Yes. AJ v Francis should be for the vacant title winner takes Usyk.

Yes.
He's still got the so-called linear title that he makes a big song and dance about, so he can defend that against Sefer Seferi once the cut has healed.

Until Usyk beats Fury or Fury officially retires and gives up his belts. Usy would not be undisputed even with the WBC belt. Fury does hold the Lineal/ No matter how made up the lineage is. He still lays a legitimate claim to being the man.
Usyk must fight and beat Fury

Nah, Usyk did everything he could to make this fight happen.
I'd be totally fine, if he beats a highly ranked opponent instead, to achieve his goal.
Never gonna happen though, because wbc dude likes to lick those big ass feet from Fury.

No way Fury bottles it from Usyk.

They should, but they won't.
It's pretty pathetic, as he only has one belt, and yet seems to be able to defend whenever he pleases against anybody he pleases.

I voted Yes, but having watched that video of Turki sitting with Fury and Usyk and his manager on the Zoom call I think we'll see the fight this year, so let him keep it until the unification happens. I think I speak for the entire boxing world though in saying I'm truly fed up with Tyson Fury and will be pulling for Usyk to win.

I don't care who actually wins the fight.Cyclops wrote: ↑04 Feb 2024, 11:11 I voted Yes, but having watched that video of Turki sitting with Fury and Usyk and his manager on the Zoom call I think we'll see the fight this year, so let him keep it until the unification happens. I just want a good fight with fair officiating. May the better man win.
On another note. I honestly feel whoever wins will retire.
Belts will split and we will start the mess of who is the best again

They mean nothing to the fans, but they mean everything to the fighters, particularly the WBC belt which seems to be the most iconic and coveted.
Fury hasn't defended the belt since 2022 and there are a lot of fighters who would love the chance to fight for that belt.

Re: Tyson Fury should be stripped of his WBC title: do you agree?
If he hadn't been stripped already, I don't think this should do it.
Seems a bit mad that he was able to fight Chisora and Ngannou whilst still holding it. Whyte was questionable.
Though to be stripped after getting cut in sparring whilst all signed to fight Usyk seems a bit unfair. I'm not buying in to the conspiracy that this was planned or fake.
Seems to be unfortunate and bad-timing, more than anything else.
Frustrating for it to happen on top of all his other shenanigans and inability to confirm a fight with more than two of the top heavies in 8 years.

Re: Tyson Fury should be stripped of his WBC title: do you agree?
No, I strongly disagree.Perkin Warbeck wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 14:16Tyson Fury should be stripped of his WBC title: do you agree?
Wilder sat on the WBC title for a long time (something like 3 years) - not facing Dillian Whyte who was his mandatory challenger. Tyson defeated Wilder and give him the rematch that the WBC had ordered and sanctioned. Then Fury fought and defeated Whyte.
More than anything the IBF mandatory challenge is due, and Hrgovic is positioned for that... Also the WBO mandatory challenge isn't far behind it, and that would be Zhang.
Re: Tyson Fury should be stripped of his WBC title: do you agree?
I doubt he cares any more. If Fury fights Usyk, people will want to see it because it's Fury vs Usyk. There would probably need to be a "world championship" attached so people who know nothing would know it was a "world championship" fight, but they could make up their own. It would have as much validity as any other.
Re: Tyson Fury should be stripped of his WBC title: do you agree?
Are you accusing him of being a pretender to the title? Bit hypocritical from someone of your name.Perkin Warbeck wrote: ↑02 Feb 2024, 14:16 He hasn't really defended it since Dillian Whyte in April 2022, that's two years ago.

I don't think any Champion should ever be stripped for anything less than retirement from the sport.
