In Prizefighter he got to the final and was really going at Audley Harrison and won the first round as Audley did his regular cover up and do absolutely nothing. Then in the second round Audley threw a one two and it was like the pub fight where someone gets smacked and they are out cold on their feet and just tumble backwards. Barrett’s corner immediately got in the ring with the towel. Unfortunately the only YouTube coverage of that fight is really grainy.
Didn't Barrett land a really blatant headbutt at one point?

Completely forgot that was the final, from memory I thought it was one of the semis.

yup he did. I followed Barrett's career, he won the Irish BUI HW title after Prizefighter against Colin Kenna. Kenna was a good boxer, beat Julius Francis and ended his career with a win vs Ian Lewison.

He sounds brilliant mate. Thanks for sharing too it's genuinely interesting.
He's a right grump old sod, but he is very very funny, I speak to him most weeks, he lives in Ipswich, whenever Ipswich is mentioned, he invariable says "I fcking hate it here." He's been there 26 years., and he's hated every single day of it. I think his hatred of ipswich might be what keeps him going.
hahahahah we all need something to live for. I look forward to being a right grump when I'm older. And too old to smack.
I imagine him waking up in the morning, looking around and thinking to himself, "Where am I?"
then it dawns on him, "Fcking ipswich, god I hate it here."
and then starts his morning routine.

Hahahah I like to think of an Ipswich local saying "lovely morning" as he goes to the shop and he mutters "fornicate off Ipswich"

The city Irish seem to be smaller but the farmers/countryside folk are often gigantic. Know plenty of 6'3 plus fellas from that way, my farming family included 😄
My dad's grandfather on his mother's side, was from rural ireland (not sure where) and was from farming stock, he was 6 foot 7 and a giant of a man apparently.

He won the kings medal for gallantry, after he rescued a man who was being robbed by three gypsies at a local fair, he beat the three of them up, and threw them into the river. My dad has the letter that accompanied the medal still, though not the medal apparently.
So you mean your great grandfather 😁 But good story very cool :TU:

I remember watching him on ITV vs Fury ironically

Maloney promoted him hence touting him as the next Lewis.

Truthfully Maloney knew nothing about boxing. He just got lucky with getting Lennox Lewis.

I’d totally forgotten Fury fought Belshaw…. Damn Tyson looks young and dare I say quite handsome here

Maloney knew a bit, he had over 80 amateur fights himself. I was not a fan though, regardless of how chopped off his wang was

Regardless of his amateur career he kept on saying how his new heavyweight (whoever he had) was the next big thing and many were awful. Belshaw being one. McBride fared better but according to Frank he was gonna be heavyweight champ etc

Also are you sure he had 80 amateur fights? Boxrec doesn’t list one that I can find

I am not sure at all tbh mate, I just remember they used to say it. He might have been talking our of his backside mate. And you're right he did talk a lot of tosh, although lots of promoters do. Fair points you made there mate.
