he's a bit like the archetypal uncle nobhead isn't he, turning up at the BBQ telling everyone he used to be well 'ard.joshj909 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2024, 18:58He could stop inviting him to press conferences etc. He's not his coach or anything like that. You can see where Tyson gets it from...SeanBrennan wrote: ↑12 Feb 2024, 18:15
the John Fury being listed made me chuckle. Not his fault who his dad his, but I certainly feel the same
That is also very annoying. Selfish and egotistical attitude thinking that he is the only thing that matters. The WBC certainly haven't helped the fans out there either.514126 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2024, 17:40 I don't like him for most of the reasons above, but the one thing that i dislike the most about him is the fact he has held back so many contenders by refusing to defend his WBC title. The division could be so much more exciting if he was willing to give deserving fighters a chance.

I saw that. I do think Shane comes across well, and genuine. And seems to care about his brother a lot.Controversial wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 15:14 Shane was interviewed and seems embarrassed by his dads comments, called it cringey

Fury:
Old Wlad
Whyte
Wilder X2
Chisora
Wallin
Cunningham
Johnson
Wlad:
Haye
Povetkin
Pulev
Ibragimov
Byrd
Chagaev
Chambers
Peter
Jennings
Thompson x2
Missed anyone? Neither are particularly impressive for supposed all time greats but there's a few decent wins there. I think Wlad takes it.
Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
I'm mostly indifferent to him at this point. Just wish he'd fight more often.
But whereas I used to root against him. Now I neither root for or against him.
That being said, I would like to see Usyk beat him, but that's more because I appreciate Usyk, and he seems like a class guy who always wants to take on the best.

No but a far more entertaining fighter (imo), a better era to fight in and at least SOME personality

Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
credit to you for your battle with depression, I've been on meds and other interventions for it for 20 years now since age of 19. Hope you are well Crease.Crease wrote: ↑12 Feb 2024, 18:40I do have a deep admiration for Tyson from coming back from his dark place. I had the same journey myself and have struggled with depression for years, so I know what it is like. His comeback, losing ten stone and going on to become World Heavyweight Champion again is somewhat of a miracle in my eyes - or probably the closest thing to one that I will ever see...
But I do recognise that he can be childish and immature when asked probing questions - he just sees it as criticism and responds with bad temper and swearing. I look at AJ's record beating the likes of Parker, Pulev, Povetkin who were all legitimate top 10 guys when he beat them, when Tyson was feeding of Seferi, Pianeya and Schwarz... That is very telling.

Mercer (albeit over thill)
Botha (ditto)
Brewster
Rahman
...and then some lower tier guys, who were ok:
Jackson
Brock
Austin
Schultz
Jefferson
Austin
Mormeck (good CW, though)
Barrett
As far as resume, Wlads's is pretty superior, though some were on the downslide, the overall quality is higher.

Surely if it’s a better era to fight in TF would have the better record?Steveh583 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 15:44No but a far more entertaining fighter (imo), a better era to fight in and at least SOME personality
I much prefer WK personality.
Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
Not a fan of him for the simple reason hes and over rated fighter in a poor era. He's had 1 decent fight and I think his fans believe that it has secured his legacy as an all time great.
Back in the 80s and 90s he wouldn't have made British title level. I think he would have been halted within his first 10 fights and become another boxer like Michael Murray.

Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
Is this an argument really?
On best resume?
Come on guys/ladies.
Wlad over Fury resume so far. At least 100.01%

It’s a fair question, I’d ask the same but I already know that there’s no answer that would make any difference to me.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 17:09why's that Lee? I can’t comprehend that point of view myself.
WK boxed almost everyone that was in and around the top, the only real exceptions being his brother and the big one being Lennox.
He boxed and beat a monstrously superior lineup of opposition.
He was an Olympic gold medalist and winner of multiple world championships and I believe history will remember him far more fondly than TF, who probably won’t really be remembered at all.
WK suffered some brutal defeats and rebuilt. Some people doubt TF mental health issues but there can be no doubting the difficulties that WK must have overcome to come back.
It’s well known that WKs personal circumstances were difficult in the build up to boxing TF, although never really mentioned for some reason and I think that WK not really having any respect for TF is the only reason that the contest wasn’t postponed.
It’s often repeated that TF ‘schooled WK in his own back yard’ but that’s really not what happened, Fury ‘lost less’ in a stinker and had Wlad started round one the way that he started round twelve, I imagine that he’d had win in the first half of the contest.
All of this is from the point of view of someone who likes Wlad and cannot stand Fury of course.
In the spirit of the thread, I don’t like Tyson Fury because he is a racist, homophobic, misogynistic, recreational and performance enhancing drug user who lies about giving money to charity, makes claims and threats that he doesn’t back up or stand by and when the aliens land, I’ll be ashamed if he is presented as our champion.
Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
That's not the point really. He faced everyone he could but he was in a poor era which doesn't help him and isn't his fault. Fury does not have the strength in depth at all.leejonesjnr wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 16:19Who would you have WK box that he didn’t?joshj909 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2024, 15:25Fury:

Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
hmm let''s see
on the like side, i found his early pro days to be very fun to follow. back then he didnt look very polished and it resulted in some good scraps - pajkic, firtha, mcdermott, cunningham. he worked on his skills and then we had a huge guy with good boxing and some personality to liven the division up. he was always talkative but i found him very humerous and likable in a friendly oaf sort of way. not one of these cringey try hards with very forced talk like a lotta these kids today. i remember when he gave out his personal number online and would just take calls from fans, that sort of thing was cool
i also think he did a laudable job getting himself back into shape and to new heights after his time off and reaching 400 pounds. of course part of him being in that position was his own PED use and lack of discipline with cocaine and the sort, but i still respect the effort it takes to get things back on track and overcome your woes.
what i dont like is the circus that it's all become with him over the last few years. a lot of nonsense and dicking around. unprofessional at times. annoying hangers on. i think some people defo go overboard with hating on him, but he gives a lot of ammunition.

Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
I have always found him likable, Shane too, not his father!
He is humorous, I like his singing, family man, showed huge balls v Wilder
One of his early interviews having a go at that plumber David Price was amazing.
Often tongue in cheek, knows how to sell a fight
Invited folk to do roadwork with him in Morecombe

Re: Why Do You Like/Dislike Tyson Fury?
it's interesting to me that so many wlad klit and deontay wilder fights are paw.....paw......paw....1 -2 , KO, yet its a popular view that one was incredibly boring and the other is wildly entertaining
is it that wilder's vulnerable and wlad isnt, giving more uncertainty to wilder bouts? but wlad has all those ko losses and kds
is it that wilder had fun fights and wlad didn't? but wlad had wars vs brewster, peter, and josh to name some
is it that wilder beat better opposition? i doubt that!
did wilder have some sort of great inside game or offensive variety that wlad didn't? not really, no
wlad could be stinky, but i think ppl got board with him on top so long that they kinda got hysterical and over the top with the whining. it was his era's time to end when it did, but he did have his moments and lotsa other guys had their poopy moments as well. at least you could count on wlad to not disappear for years at a time
