Re: Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk | PPV - 18 May 2024
Yes of course but I'll put it like this
Did Bowe win the first round of that Olympic fight and was it an early stoppage - Yes
Keep in mind I've seen Bowe hurt, dropped hard even as an amateur and come back in that same round to give his opponent a pasting.
Lewis vs Bowe in 1992 - it comes down to opinions but I have Bowe. Lewis was about to go on to lose 5 out of the 6 rounds vs Bruno (my scorecard - one judge agreed as well as the HBO broadcast team) and then get KO'd to McCall. He wasn't the finished article.
Was Bowe shot in the Golota fights - Yes for me. The first fight was mainly a lack of preparation - he basically didn't train to the point where Eddie Futch who had him for his entire career said he was done and that Bowe was a "lost cause". He didn't train and underestimated Golota and had to do it the hard way - taking brutal punishment in the process and that fight put him into shot territory. Bowe then overtrained for the second fight and took a drubbing. He had Golota hurt and Golota fouled out though so won the fight fairly.
Golota at the time was actually a very good fighter and had the tools to beat Lewis and Bowe but mentally wasn't right, especially after those Bowe fights. Never had the mentality to beat Lewis and those Bowe fights would have left a serious mark, having gone down as a fouler and quitter. Keep in mind that Golota was actually recognised by most people as the number 1 heavyweight in the world after that first fight with Bowe. Lewis wasn't in the picture as he had struggled badly vs Mercer (I had it a draw). Also that 1996 version of Bowe would indeed get KO'd by Lewis in 1996 although you can't write Bowe off completely as he's never been stopped and if he got Lewis going there would be nowhere to hide but by the same token Lewis was a fine finisher himself and Bowe didn't have the ability to get under right hands as well as he had in his prime.

Re: Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk | PPV - 18 May 2024
As a quick fact check I don’t think most people regarded Golota as the number one heavyweight post-Bowe 2. My memories of the Golota/Lewis build up was (ironically) that some people felt Golota had the mindset of a real fighter, but still Lewis was by far the favourite. My take on Bowe and Lewis is that pre-Stewart Lewis would have lost to Bowe. And the reverse being true post-Stewart. It’s all fairly academic discussion as it’s totally comical to suggest Lewis or Bowe wouldn’t have dismantled Ngannou in their sleep, and Fury is now operating on a far lower, sub-optimal level these days.
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk | PPV - 18 May 2024
At the time, Mercer didn’t win a fight in 3 years, including a draw with Marion Wilson. Wilson lost 41 times.si7dog7 wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 17:10Yeah. Price is as relevant to Fury as Michael Smyth is to Joe Calzaghe. The Gratest wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 16:30
That's also true, as he ducked out of fighting a rematch against the last guy to beat him, David Price, after Price blasted out John McDermott in 90 seconds. Lewis avenged both his defeats and left no doubt, so you're correct, not similar at all.
Re: Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk | PPV - 18 May 2024
Prior to Price's first loss which caused all of his future losses, don't you think Price had a squeak against Fury, around 2012, soon after his Fraudley Harrison win?BigDoofus wrote: ↑16 Feb 2024, 05:30Price is as relevant to Fury as Michael Smyth is to Joe Calzaghe. The Gratest wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 16:30

Price had just blasted out John McDermott in 90 seconds, the same John McDermott who a lot of people thought should have been given the nod over your lad in the first fight. No wonder your lad decided to suddenly ditch the British title and get a legal document signed off to prove he was Irish and fight for that title.BigDoofus wrote: ↑16 Feb 2024, 05:30Price is as relevant to Fury as Michael Smyth is to Joe Calzaghe. The Gratest wrote: ↑15 Feb 2024, 16:30

His fight prior to the Lennox fight was a close loss to Holyfield. Why gloss over that?BigDoofus wrote: ↑16 Feb 2024, 04:55At the time, Mercer didn’t win a fight in 3 years, including a draw with Marion Wilson. Wilson lost 41 times.
Prior to fighting Fury, Ngannou hadn't won a fight in almost 2 years (23 months) and had lost to Derrick Lewis. Lewis has lost 12 times.

Yes Mercer had a a really hot spell there and probably doesn’t get enough credit for it. He must have been operating as a top 5 heavyweight for that period. Full credit for Holyfield and Lewis coming through. The Gratest wrote: ↑16 Feb 2024, 07:31His fight prior to the Lennox fight was a close loss to Holyfield. Why gloss over that?

Not long now until Fury shows that gap toothed, ugly little Middleweight sausage who is top dog.
We know this to be true because Fury has told us all, over and over again, he just needs to show us tomorrow evening how it will be done.
Oh, no,wait, Fury can't show Uysk who the top dog is tomorrow because he pulled out. In the meantime we will just to have to take Tyson's word for it that he is the best. No need for him to actually prove it.

“Fighting Tyson Fury in December is impossible,” Usyk told gathered press in Kyiv on Friday.
“For two reasons. First, I have old injuries that need to be treated. They made themselves known. Recovery will take a couple of months.
“Second, I just don’t want to box in December. I haven’t left the gym for half a year, I want to be with my children, my family, there are certain things to do at home. Boxing can wait a little. Next year, I think it will happen”

Strange how Fury’s obvious injury is speculated on by flat-earthers , yet the same people refuse to accept that Usyk turned the fight down (with an unspecified injury).

Hmm. So Fury offers fights to guys who fought 8 weeks ago coz “they’re match fit”
They say no
