Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou | PPV - 8 March 2024

As this fight moves closer, does any one have any actual sparring stories or comments regarding Ngannou.

Only one I can find is this from 2020.

This is what Sam Jones said after watching Ngannou spar with Joyce:

"Ngannou and Joe went eight rounds of holding their feet. It was the most entertaining spar I've ever seen Joe in.

"Joe, when he spars, likes to work with the other guy but Ngannou was in no mood for a technical spar. He was there to put leather on Joe's face.

Call me an old disnosaur but this fight should not be a PPV fight - okay with a decent undercard (as it is looking likely) it is acceptable but it is a joke really how much boxing fans need to pay to watch boxing on TV and this is against a 1 fight novice and I personally question the true legitimacy of his first fight.

I refused to watch Fury-Ngannou fight because I saw it as a farce. I was wrong and after Ngannou's performance, I think it deserves to be PPV. Whether I pay my hard earned Shekles is a different thing.

I listened to the NGannou fight - well it wasn't a commentary as such but Spencer Oliver talking about the fight and each round as it was going - and viewing the thread here aswell. I think more thought NGannou won than Fury but yet it never even crossed my mind that Francis was going to get the decision.

I think the vagueness for many many months as to whether it was a propoer fight an exhibition or something inbetween also smelt a bit too many and there is still a part of me that thinks Fury carried Ngannou. Sure he did not mean to go down, but he did not seem to press for anything himself and I just knew it was going to a SD win for Fury.

I just wish this fight was for some kind of belt - a WBC Silver belt or something as again, not convinced this is legitimate yet.

On a side, re the PPV thing. Hearn / Warren etc have said for YEARS that they need PPVs to pay for stadium hire, pay fighters wages etc - to bring the big fights TO THE UK.... well whether this is the UK or not, this is now not a necessary. This is pocket money for "his excellency" and he could be the only person in attendance and they would still fight. So it would be good if EH and FW did not put PPVs for these Saudi bills as they are not needed.

Yes, that is not beyond the realms of possibility.

I guess we will know for sure if he actually fights Usyk, though I strongly suspect it won't happen, and there will be another withdrawal, and this time, Tyson will retire, and perhaps finally he will be stripped of the belt he has been holding hostage for the last few years.

I think that the Wilder fights suggest his punch resistance is going, and that he's in decline, but we shall see.
