Favourite boxing podcasts?

Post by Deserter »

With the demise of Boxing Life Stories (or hopefully just a hiatus), i've started branching out a bit. Was already a fairly regular listener to the Boxing News podcast, but my favourite right now is the George Groves Boxing Club - only started listening in the last few weeks and have to say I think it's brilliant. George and Declan Taylor are great as co-hosts, with a really strong rapport and the right balance of insights and banter. The last episode with John Ryder was a perfect example of that imo.

What is everyone else listening to, any other recommendations?

Only really listen to Boxing Asylum and Boxing News one with Rob Tebbutt, I'd listen to more but there aren't enough hours in the week, I don't have Spotify or anything like that so I just listen while I'm pottering about the house, doing dishes, making tea etc, Boxing Asylum always good for a laugh as well as the fighting content, great bunch of lads

I am enjoying Groves' podcast. Not a podcast per se but hoping Dave Allen's channel starts to post regularly.

Boxing Asylum pod is the GOAT, been listening to it for the last 10 years, though I do feel lads enthusiasm has waned a little bit, needs Ozzy Smith back on there again, Rob Kelly is always good for talking about Andy Lee and fights that happened 5-10 years ago.

Pod and Weave is always a good insight from a betting perspective.

I used to like Alex Steedman when he was on allegedly, now comes across as an extremely smug boxing snob on the Boxing News pod with Matt Christie, don't listen to that anymore.

Bell2Bell pod with Steve Lillis and John Evans is good, Lillis sounds like he's underwater most episodes and the concept of 3 minutes of speaking on a subject rarely works they should ditch that, but a good listen all the same.

BTR boxing pod is ok, as is the BoxHard pod, but wouldn't go out of my way to listen to them.

Tris does another podcast called Ringside Rewind with John Rawling and Ian Darke that isn’t bad, they mainly talk about older fighters/fights. It can be interesting listening to the stories they have about events there were at or interviews they done.

Bunce's podcast is really good, even after it took a hit when Costello moved to Dazn. He gets a lot of stick on here but he knows his onions and is time served.

Used to dislike Steedman on Boxing News podcast as he thought he had too much of a whiff of the golf club bar about him, but have warmed to him in time. Now it's unmissable for me

Have a few other non boxing pods on go so no real room for any others. Boxing Life Stories was good in that it was timeless so you didn't need to cram it in before an event. If there was similar to queue up I would be interested in it

ashamed to say I did not know Bunce was doing a podcast, will give it a look. Bunce's articles in Boxing News are my favourite. His book (not the novel!) is excellent and a proper history of boxing for me.

Absolutely mate. It's called 5 live boxing with Steve Bunce.

I think one of the best things about it is that he actually physically goes to a lot of the events. Plenty of other boxing podcasts just feel like pub chat in comparison

I always listen to the Boxing News one (Rob Tebbutt) and have started the Groves one recently, it's quite decent.

Thanks guys, some great recommendations here. Keep on forgetting about Ringside Rewind, so appreciate the reminder, while there's some on here i wasn't even aware of, so great to have them on the radar.
Sadly, while i really enjoy Bunce's articles in BN, i can't face listening to him, as have just found his hypocrisy over the years too much. Just my take though.

Boxing News podcast, by far the best for me. No screaming and shouting or nonsense . Sounds very professional

Love Montero on Boxing but Mike keeps getting his missus pregnant and his output is inconsistent.
Boxing News my favourite for the UK angle.
Bunce is entertaining but is too up the arse of his guests.

Don't mind Catterall on talksport, but Nick Peet is awful and also brings out the worst in him

this is a great Boxing News/George Groves one - interviewing Donald McRae. If you've read Dark Trade you'll enjoy this.

Thanks. This is a particularly good listen. Donald McCrae's book ' The Dark Trade is one of the best boxing books ever written. A great guy to listen to, too. Groves is a really good host.

George’s interviews are excellent …

I particularly enjoyed the one with “Mick The Rub”
