What was the cover of the first Boxing News you ever bought?
For me - 1987 - Tony Sibson stopping Brian Anderson for the British middleweight title - I forgot the headline but it was of Sibson watching on as Anderson falls to the canvas to take a count.
What about you?
What about you?
Re: What was the cover of the first Boxing News you ever bought?
Cant remember but I can remember just reading monthly boxing mags and thinking it was weird there was also a weekly one as it seemed like overkill. When I did eventually buy a copy, that was it and I've never missed it since (and the monthlies have all gone)

Lloyd Honeyghan losing against Marlon Starling or Jorge Vaca .. definetly of Honeyghan losing.

I wonder if Boxing News would ever digitise their archives. Be a large undertaking but would be happy to pay a bit extra as part of membership to access it. Would be an excellent resource for boxing historians too.

This one is now for sale for £3.99, ironically the same price as the current BN https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372645890803nobleart1978 wrote: ↑25 Feb 2024, 11:32 June 1987

I might be wrong but Lewis beating Ruddock rings a bell, I think just under a pound.
My dad always got them but I reckon that's the first one I bought

Mine was around the time of Honeyghan-Curry. For the posters talking about archives, you can now pick up BNs very cheaply on the leading auction website - if 1967 to 1972 is your bag, I have just listed a load of duplicates I have cleared out, having sorted my collection, including a couple of complete years, and am selling them cheaply just to clear the space, so have a look if you are interested.

The only trouble is where to keep them all especially if you have hundreds of them. They are way overpriced on ebay now sadly.
If they could do a digital archive from issue 1 in 1909 that would be ace. I would pay a subscription for that cos it would be a great resource historically.

Got a feeling the first one I bought was the 'Spice Boys' cover - Ryan Rhodes, Prince Naseem and Robin Reid I think. Really enjoyed reading BN back then.

Re: What was the cover of the first Boxing News you ever bought?
I used to read it and the American mags in the 80s but never bought it. I think the first one I bought was 91, Bruno on the cover. Probably before his post Tyson comeback?

Re: What was the cover of the first Boxing News you ever bought?
this week's edition just landed through my letterbox, some excellent articles in it. Bunce's article about the WBF belt is interesting. And an interview with Eggington is good.
