As everyone around at that time will remember the daily newspapers covered boxing in far more detail, but Boxing News set itself apart with comprehensive coverage from around Britain and the world.

A mate of mine had a shop and moved into the premises and I found a box of old 70s ring mags. He said I could have them, it was a massive pile.

Reading the dedication people have in boxing with regards the amount of money they spend makes me feel very guilty.

BOXING has too many yes men and publications like boxing news and various podcasts are more interested in protecting their ringside seats than asking. The right questions. Boxing News in my view are amongst the very worst in not writing and debating what’s wrong in boxing.

The demise of boxing on Sky and the very poor quality they are churning out warrants debate.

Why hasn’t boxing news covered mazrhar majeeds involvement in the sport.

I could go on .., boxing news no longer has the spine to cover the controversial subjects and the social media reporters are even worse.

to be fair Christie was one of the few to discuss Kinahan and be involved in the documentary. And they publish Hauser who is brave enough to question the big issues.

Never subscribed, was travelling recently so thought I'd get some reading material for it, saw it was £3.95 and it had the thickness of a pamphlet, decided it wasn't good value, especially as it has the likes of Declan Taylor writing for them now.

he does, he wrote the best article about Gerald and Lisa McLennan couple weeks ago, one of the most moving pieces I've ever read. Fennell is a great wrtier. His article in this week's BN about Shinny Bayyar has had me rewatching so many boughties fights!

well done on the Mclennan article, was excellent.

BN also keep banging the drum for Ringside Charitable Trust, to their credit.

One of the things that is clear however is there are less boxing writers about these days. BN covered this in this week's edition, as they covered the closure of the Boxing Writer's Club after 73 years, which has dwindled from 100 to 25 members. This is deeply concerning as it does leave us open to just getting the IFL cheerleading pseudo-journalism. If you care about proper boxing coverage, I'd spare the tenner if people can (I get it if they can't) and subscribe. They do offers from time to time too. As a lifelong tightwad, I just make it the only thing I ever ask my missus for by way of presents. It's a lot better than socks.

Spud, great that you took the comments on board and allowed me to convert you. Perhaps you're not as combative as before!

Yes, I am still involved with BN, and more than ever. And yes, that may consitute a bias of sorts. But it's something I'm very proud to do, and that pride comes from a deep sense of respect for the publication that I always had, and would still have even if I was just a reader.
