BIG CHANGES AHEAD FOR THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Times They Are A-changin'
Or are they? In what could be a momentous shift in the sport your friendly neighbourhood reporter has heard strong rumours that things could be changing and who knows how long for?
For many, many years now the inhabitants of Simland have been used to the Joint Stewardship of the ever-conformist Mr Crease and the eccentric anarchy of Mr BoxBuzz - but now the power of the World Championships could be moving downward...
First off, the Week 7 Title Fights will look like this:
Fighters ranked 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 will fight for the four World Championships
Fighters ranked 9 and 10 will be on stand by in case anyone refuses to compete in those big fights.
Ideally ranks 9 and 10 would fight for the IBO title.
So if a fighter is ranked in the top 10 come Week 7, he will receive title opportunities...
But there is a catch,
the top 8 fighters will have to decide the fights themselves, which belt they are fighting for and pick one of the other 7 to fight against... The power is with the Managers.
So here it is, the big reveal that you have all been waiting for - Managers will take ownership of the World Championship that they hold, for as long as they hold it...
But what does this mean? - you may ask...
It means no rules,
no regulations,
and that Managers will be taking ownership of their own fate and deciding for themselves who is worthy of a title shot...
But if/when they do lose, the power of ownership passes to the next man. If the fighter is unmanaged it will go back to BoxBuzz and Crease -
who will probably give the title shot to the highest available challenger who calls out the new Champ.
This new paradigm (if it is accurate) could really change the sport of Sim-Boxing as he know it. And again after much hard work and waiting around I got an exclusive interview with an anonymous source, which I now quote;
"Gentlemen, we have entered the wild west, and the sheriff has gone missing. All bets are off how long this will last for, it may only be for this season, but a season is a season. We are picking up the ball and running with it"
an industry colleague confided to me one day after a couple of refreshments (needless to stay he wasn't walking straight leaving the establishment)
Reportedly in this new "extreme ownership" model - the positions will be known as "Chairmen" - so again, if a Manager's fighter wins a World Championship, he will become Chairman of that sanctioning body for as long as his guy holds the belt.
So, dog eat dog, fastest quick draw wins... The wild west is here. But will this new "Chairmen" prove a popular idea amongst the boxing public, only time will tell...
More news when I get it,
yours sincerely

Mr Norman "Nosey" Parker,
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
I like the idea of putting the rules and sanctioning styles into the hands of the managers. This gives us the opportunity for a more accurate simulation of the politics in the sport.
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
I'm in between. On one hand, it's something new and different, which could be fun. On the other hand, with no more need of a ranking system or mandatory shots, this could get dumb really, really fast.
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
A bit like Geto.
In 2 minds. Sounds like a fun and potentially, an interesting addition but could go in the opposite direction rapidly, too. That said, the Commish's like a bit of 'chaos'.
I have voted 'No' but will go with the majority.

Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
Title Mandos will being in Week 10 and rotate between the 4 World Championships each week....
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
Mandos would help, but we have what, 9 managers this season? So that's 18 managed fighters.
Say I win at belt, I can't fight myself and doubt I'd fight my stablemate, that's 16 fighters that are managed. A champ can't face a top 15 ranked fighter weekly? That list should be just about every managed fighter. Who are champs trying to face?
I get the whole "evil manager role" thing, but it gets to a certain point where it's not fun if most belts are held hostage by a champ/s defending against Charlie Z weekly.

Not sure, but in this thread you seem to be the only one interested in having oversight over a belt. Though I recall someone else interested early on.armageto wrote: ↑04 Mar 2024, 15:46 Mandos would help, but we have what, 9 managers this season? So that's 18 managed fighters.

so here's how it would work. And We can have up to two people doing this if there is an interest. The IBF, WBC, and WBA belts will simply be determined by the software, that should keep the game grounded.
The IBO and the WBO could potentially be up for grabs. IBO to the first request and WBO to the second request. I would simply supply the accumulated points that the software spits out which would be in a public thread after each event. The Suliman of the independent organization can simply "decide" his own top ten. The software does not always align the point accumulation as the final arbiter for belt standings so that is not a requirement. There will be subjective...and in some cases that means insane determinations. At the whim of the Suliman. How far they differ from the main belts is up to the Sulimans. This would be a lot of work, who has the time? lol. So be careful what you ask for. As you would be expected to keep us all informed of your ratings...and we sometimes have as many as two events a week. So that time thing...could be a bitch. And you are the King of your organization. Duty bound only to your own set of ethics. Independent is the keyword. And yeah, conflict of interest IF your man always has the title. You will inherit critical thoughts and your feelers will be hurt...or not.
By the way the software's rating system has not been all that transparent or popular either. So there's that.
Let me know. I think by event 8 we could trial baloon this. If a manager abandons it....then that organization simply goes out of business for the rest of the season. Three main belts.....WBC WBA IBF.......and WBO if no one claims it. IBO and potentially WBO could be "owned.
Further comments?

I was the other one who was interested. At the time I thought it would be fun doing it with the lesser IBO belt but if we are going to be using one of the big 4 I would be very interested in doing so. My only change would be perhaps swapping WBO with WBA simply because out of the 4 major sanctioning commissions they seem to be the worst at the moment for multiple champions, not following their own rules etc.
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
In theory,
P4P would have an org
I'd have an org
The other 3 belts would be up to their current belt holder?
Running an org, could we set our own mandos, making our own schedule, along with other crazy oddities. Like maybe one guy over trains and another under trains for the fight?

Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
With all things being equal - maybe give you both the IBF & WBO - as the 2 younger boxing bodies... BoxBuzz can do the IBO on his own, if he wants it...armageto wrote: ↑05 Mar 2024, 00:52 In theory,

We'll keep the WBC & WBA (as the older two) traditional with the old way and family values and all that...

Sounds like a plan. I can make a new thread weekly with updated rankings, match stipulations, mandos, etc
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
I'm indifferent to either belt, so I'll take whichever belt org P4P1 doesn't want.
Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
Three belts to rule them all....or at least keep the game stable. WBC, WBA, and IBF will be computerized. WBO and IBO...both belts with BO will be outsourced. To be ruthlessy and lawlessly (I'm sure) managed by rogue outsourced entrepreneurs.
You will both need to simply refer to the point compilations....and consider the fighters records, and rate them as your wisdom guides you. I assume you will keep us posted as to your top ten list. I would hope you would ban no fighters, and my suggestion is that you simply sanction championship bouts. But that is merely a suggestion. You are the Kings of your Domains, the Sulimans of your Universe.
Crease and I will have no say in your escapades...uh I mean your serious contributions to the quality experience of Sim Puglism. Good Luck. And if you should want out, there will be a ghost computerized version that will assume the mantle should you feel the need to depart. My fighters dabble with steroids that can not be traced. so we do not fear any sanctiong body or USADA.

Re: The Times They Are A-changin' (and poll)
Two organizations are available. IBO, and WBO....... The WBA, WBC, and IBF will be computer driven. So...I'm going to assume P4P1 is WBO......and armageto is IBO....both of you have BO. Sanctioning bodies become rather relevant on week 9. after week 7 will be the first published points. Week 8 will be the first set of fights with points made public. and in week 9 the first ratings will be published. So that by week 10 things can begin to heat up, and belts may be in play. We need to give the software time to accumulate some context. These timelines should work. And if the delithium crystals hold out, and the software doesnt unwind, this season may be extended.
