Roy Jones Jr. vs. Rodrigo Valdez

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Middleweight Bout

Jones would overwhelm the hard-punching Valdez behind his fast jabs and speedy combinations on the outside to either take a decision or stopping Valdez late. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Roy Jones Jr at middleweight was too fast for anybody. Jones by decision. And by wide margin.

I imagine Jones wins, given that he's easily the higher caliber fighter. But that's the most I can say.

As for Valdez, he was one hell of a fighter. Just watch his films, he's quick, moves his upper-body effortlessly in a variety of angles, and is a tigerish, devastating combination puncher. I remember Valdez's years as WBC middleweight champ when I was a kid. I've got to give him his props.

During the 1974 - 1976 years, Monzon, obviously, was the world's number one middleweight. Second best was Valdez, and then there was a huge gap between him and whoever qualified as third best. Valdez was really the only guy who could give Monzon a run for his money.

It's shame that Rodrigo had the bad luck of being in his prime when ATG King Carlos held the middleweight throne.

I agree with everything you say about Valdez; however, other than Briscoe , the guys he beat were no big deal.

What about Gratien Tonna? I always considered Tonna to be a legitimate top contender, at least during his peak years. Rodrigo iced him 11 rounds.
